...anyone gonna do it? i've seen some references to folks considering it here and there, but i'm sure federalizing the car would be $xx,xxx.xx.

the sedan just wouldn't do it for me (lot's of stuff to carry, need roof rails for the bike).

cheers.

rheudabaga, it's great if you could input you location etc.
I think it would greatly increase your chances of getting a reply :)
This is an international forum but I guess you live in the USA?

I did some checking, and it can be done, obviously. No less than 10
large to federalize and ship, however, and more than likely would be around
20. Also, you would lose any warranty from AoA. Not worth it unless
you are a true baller.

...but i might fall short of being a "true baller"...

Mr. Fru-T Pants is indeed accurate. i checked into doing the
exact same thing a couple of months back (when some bogus
guy on autotrader.com was "selling" RS6 avants that he
didn't have) and found that audi of north america will not honor
a factory warranty on an unauthorized import.

however, if you are crazy enough to pay the extra money and
go without the factory warranty you can take satisfaction in the
fact that you would be one of the VERY few people in this
county to have a street legal RS6 avant (compared to the 1000
of us who will have the RS6 sedan)

You may find your beauty at a decent price if ready to go second-hand (if losing the Audi warranty is part of the deal, then you may as well go second-hand and save all the extra-dough for potential repair, no ?)

On Mobile.de, there are 195 (one hundred ninety five) RS6 for sale, starting at :
- Spanish-license RS6 Avant : EUR 75,636
- RS6 Avant 16,600km : EUR 75,900
- RS6 Avant 6,100km : EUR 77,500
- RS6 Avant 26,000km : EUR 77.900
- RS6 17,000km : EUR 78.900
etc.
About +/- 100 of them are below EUR 85,000.
The search form of http://www.mobile.de/cgi-bin/search.pl?bereich=pkw&sprache=1, enter "RS6" in the Modell field.

Current exchange rate is 1 EUR : 1.1 USD

It's a nice thought, and thanks for the heads-up. Unfortunately, after
you add 10% to the Euro to convert to US funds, one is still looking at
list price for a comparable Avant, similar to that of a new sedan in the Staes.
The federalization fees and associated costs still apply, bringing your
final cost to around $110,000 after taxes. I took into account in my original
estimates, that I would buy a used Euro-spec Avant. The one silver lining
is that once you federalized the car, you could(and would probably want to)
convert it back to Euro-spec. Emissions would still be met, and the parts purchased
to federalize the car could be sold to recoup part of your initial outlay.

Just a thought, but I would hold off for a while if I were you. Residuals will just get
lower, and you might be able to find a real deal in the near future, that
might be more agreeable to your situation.
