Hi everyone.I recquire some advise concerning paint of my :addict: .It is blue 'Mugello' with chameleon characteristics as it is purple as blue depending on which angle light is falling on the car.Unfortunately for me I have recently scratched left rear wheel arch.It is not a big scratch and some people might not even notice it,but for me it is like a scar on my body.I decided to repaint it and face two choices. One is the official dealer of course, but they will repaint only the whole bodypart of the car.The other one is going to a garage which specializes on car painting and they promised me to paint just the area of the scratch and that it will be unnoticable. The thing about this colour is that there is a big risk of finishing up with paint reflecting light in a little bit different angle than the original work and in the sunlight it will be very clear that it has been redone.I ask for your advise. If anyone had any experiences with such matters or knows anything,H E L P!!!

I don't know much about paints.

But based on your description : if the 2 options are similar prices, I'll go for the official dealer without a single hesitation.

If not, I'd start with the specialist paint shop. If he screws up, I'd then move for the official dealer to do the whole bodypart (perfect fall-back option).

You may also make a deal with the paint shop like "If I ain't satisfied with your work, you don't charge me. As a proof of my good faith -ie not playing games with you- , I'll bring you the car and the invoice from the official dealer once he's done the whole bodypart".

gnomik007,

i've been working at the same autobody shop for 13 years.
it is a family owned and very reputable business. i can't speak
for the shops in the U.K. but here in the states any shop that
is well known and has excellent quality will give you a LIFETIME
GUARANTY IN WRITING on the quality of their repairs such as
we do. the most important thing to do is find such a shop in your
area that will give you this in writing. if the dealer is willing to give
you a lifetime guaranty in writing on the repairs than you should certainly take it there. however, if they will not then i recommend
taking it to an outside shop (or garage) that will put this in writing

i can't stress enough the importance of this. the fact that you
take your car to the dealer does not even gauranty that they will
be the ones to work on your car unless they have a collision
repair shop on site. for an example we do work for several
dealerships in our area (honda, toyota, and mercedes) and we
are their "official" repair facility that takes care of all their
customer's cars. we are completely independent from the dealers
of course but become an extension of the dealer whenever we
work on one of their customer's vehicles. my point is that an
independent repair shop can and will do as good of a job as the
dealer and in many cases is doing the job for the dealer but the
main point is find a shop with a lifetime gauranty. no, they most
likely will not give you your money back, but will make sure that
the car looks as good as factory and that you are satisfied.

i hope this will help you as i know you (like myself) are
expecting the highest quality on your RS6. good luck:cheers:

Didn't mean to be unrespectful to professional bodyshops ;-) but my underlying point is : if the work isn't properly done by/through the Audi dealer (assuming they're the ones invoicing), then there'll be easier to get them to correct it.

I'm sure that a dissatisfied/upset RS6 owner calling the Audi national HQ about an official agent doing a lousy paint job will have more support than on a 3rd party, as they can use different internal leverages.

no disrespect taken:D

simply want to inform members of this board that it is amazingly
rare for a luxury dealer (mercedes, bmw, audi) to have their own
repair shop in the dealer. it is actually quite common for them to
sublet out the work to a nearby qualified shop. they will still
give the customer an invoice and it will still be considered a
dealer transaction. and yes, you will still get the audi customer
service!
