Chaps,

This picture just in courtesy of Germany's Auto Motor und Sport. I think it looks great. They report two engines being available from launch, a 3.2 litre FSI V-6 and a 3.6 litre FSI V-6.

According to my own information, it is almost certain that a 4.2 litre V-8 FSI will be available pretty soon after launch if not at launch. Developing 350-380 bhp, it won't be the engine from the RS4, but I've heard that the 420 bhp engine will come later in an RS5.

The styling is remarkably faithful to the Nuvolari concept, with a few nips and tucks to keep it fresh.- but also to differentiate it from the TT. As mentioned, this is a brand new chassis based on the next A4, so it should have decent legroom for rear passengers.

Note forward stance of front wheels due to engine being mounted further back. Expect Torsen 3 (60% of power to rear whhels and DSG. You knew all this already. But nice to have it confirmed. A definite alternative to the 3-Series coupe. Comin' atcha in late 2007...

Looks really good.
But don't think you that a 380 bhp 4.2 V8 is a bit too near at the 420 bhp version?
In my mind a 350 bhp S5 would be more than enough.

AMS also says that at the beginning the A5 will only have 6-cylinder engines.

They've also said that the A4 will get new Turbo-engines with 1.6-2.0 litres displacement. But Audi will not get the turbocharger-engines from VW.

Audi seems to have a ton of stuff coming out. I like the idea of them finally making a modern coupe, but I wonder how dynamic it will actually be. I guess the R8 or w/e will be more for that than this "A5."

This is just Auto Motor und Sport.
They report two V6 engines will be available from the start a 3.2 litre V6 FSI (Audi 90 degree V6) and a 3.6 litre V6 FSI (VW narrow VR6).
yeah right, i don't think so AMuS.
Audi will not use the 3.6 VR6 in the A5.
They just introduced a new 3.2 liter 300 hp V6 FSI engine in the "Roadjet Concept"
The engine line-up is simple.

2.0 litre FSI K04 turbo 260 pk. (S3 engine)
3.2 litre V6 FSI 300 hp (Audi Roadjet engine)
4.2 litre V8 FSI 350 hp (Audi Q7 engine)

All engines will have a Torsen3 40-60% front-rear power split.
The "Roadjet" DSG gearbox will be a option.

wfg, Hans.

This car really looks great! Is this car going to be unveiled in Geneva?

And at what price can we expect this car? A4 3.2FSI +20/30%?

Let's hope the rear looks as good as the Alfa GT/Maserati 3200GT rear ends!

Audi will be onto something then.

TBH though, are Audi trying to pull of a Mercedes with these entirely new model line ups to fill the gaps in the model names?

Nice!

I wonder how dynamic it will actually be.

The engine behind the wheels will have to help quite a bit, and with 350 to 380 Hp, won't it will have similar performance to the current S4?

I understand that an RS version of the new A5 will appear pretty qucikly. Obviously, it'll have the latest RS4's engine, which is still undergoing further testing and tweaking. Also, DSG is a cert on the B8 chassis. DSG and a V-8 with 420 bhp could be an extremely interesting combination. Certainly better than SMG iii. As mentioned elsewhere, the flexibility of RS4 engine probably makes a DSG box a 'nice to have' rather than a 'must have'. If I were Audi, I would launch such a beast around 6 months after the next M3. I think the actual launch date will depend on how sales of the RS4 hold up as the B7 A4 chassis reaches the end of its shelf life.
