I heard a rumor that the gear box in the RS6 has changed on new models so that it now can handle 750 Nm. That would be the same gear box as the Touareg V10.

Anyone with more information to confirm this? :confused:

But why would they do it?

Because it does something better (smoother, faster,...) ....
or for tuning options?

They could shorten 4th gear which is as for the S6 too long and not in relation/proportional to 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Makes sense, probably too big. But do you know of any increase in the performance of handling torque?

The way the front transfer box is positioned means that that Touareg gearbox is not suitable for the RS6. However, it certainly can handle a lot of Torque (well the one currently in development can).
The RS4 gearbox does bolt up, however.

Do you know what kind of power the RS4 tranny will handle with the stock clutch and pressure
plate? Max numbers? Any way to easily bolster that to handle additional?

Forget the stock clutch and pressure plate, they are not going to handle monster torque. This gearbox can be modified to handle "a great deal of torque", how much depends on how much work you do.
The clutch and flywheel should be upgraded. The really strong clutch is a bit rough to drive on the road but will withstand all those 6,000 rpm burnouts off the line.
If you are upgrading the clutch because of extra torque, you should also consider switching from a dual-mass flywheel to a single-mass flywheel. If doing this, you should use a pressure plate and clutch that have been modified to work with the flywheel, otherwise you risk premature failure.
