Few days ago this was posted on fourtitude.com:

Some may not be surprised at the notion of a Porsche using an Audi powerplant. The automotive uber geek might already know that the 3.2 V6 from the TT and new A3 S-line is the base mill in the Porsche Cayenne, albeit with a slightly different torque curve.
However, the new February issue of Road and Track magazine suggests Zuffenhausen is considering a lightweight Boxster-based ‘Speedster’ model that might be the spiritual successor of the 914 and be powered by Audi’s potent 2.0T.
The 220bhp from the momentarly engine (a4 dtm) will not be enough for an porsche.
Maybe they take the engine from an new S3 (about 260bhp some said). That would be a nice car :)

What would you think of an new speedster with 260bhp?

If it's anything like the 914, then it should do fine with 220hp.

Did you know the multilink suspension of the VAG A-platform was designed with mid-engined RWD adaptability. When I read that in an interview (at the time the concept R came out), I kinda figured that the 914 would make a comeback. The odd stillborn VW projects aside, there's only one reason why they would engineer it that way.

The article says Boxster based, but that doesn't make any sense. Not technically, not financially, and not marketing-y. If they do build a Miata-eater, it will probably use bits from the A5 platform.

It's not far fetched if you consider the Cayenne. A new 914 could prove to be a nice little money maker for Porsche.
