View Full Version : Tire pressure for winter tires?

I just put on a set of M3 snows (18 inch 225s) and wondered what tire pressure others are running?

The manual says to add + 4 lbs for winter tires, that would put me at 44 lbs over my summer tires, but the car rides pretty harsh so I'm thinking of going to 40 lbs or 42 lbs.

Any help would be appreciated!

I run mine as recommended. With the weight of this car, I'm afraid to underinflate. Are you running the 5-spoke 18" winter wheels that look like the 19" Euro wheels? I have attributed the harsh winter ride as much to these as the pressures, because the wheels are real boat anchors. Too bad - they look great.

Yes on the 5 spokes, heavy but good and sturdy for the crappy roads here in Boston. So are you running 40 lbs?

thanks...

I run 44 w. no problems, although roads are nightmare here, but I think 40 would be ok also, if you don't drive very agressively.

If you are running the OE Wheels 7,5x18" with 225/45 18 95V Tires you are in need to run the Wheels with 44 psi. This Wheel Set is certified for 1520 lbs@ each Wheel-Tire Combo. If you are lowering the Tirepressure they wont reach the needed Load Rating (95).
You can also use the OE Wheels 8,5x18" with 255/40 18 95V, also 44 psi. The Car feels a bit more comfortable depending on the Suspension you have, Sport (basic) or Enhanced Sport (stiffer, 0.394 inch lower).

Qisha,

Thank you for the insight.

I'm curious, I believe we had no choice on suspensions with the US models, was there a choice in Germany?

Thanks,
Bill
