View Full Version : RS4 Pics from Essen 2006 - New options

Erik

Here are my pics from Essen 2006, focus on the new Audi RS4.

As you can see it has some new options as well as a special quattro GmbH interior.

I must say the black optics and the titanium wheels is a must.
The 'piano lacquer' in the front is not my kind of taste, I prefer a matt color over shiny. But apparently that was what the Audi designers wanted for Essen, many other Audis had it as well.

Note that the exhaust is no different than stock other than the color. No sports exhaust like the RS6.

PLEASE do not use these pics on any other forums etc. without stating the source. Thank you...

This car has the following options (plus a few more not worth mentioning )

Adaptive lights
Comfort package
Navi/TV
9x19" Titanium rims (NEW)
High performance tires 255/35/19 (P Zero Corsa)
Exclusive package - Leather / Valcona
RS4 Floor mats (NEW?)
Black optics (NEW) Looks very good IMO!
RS sports steering wheel
Sportfahrwerk Plus

Basic cost: €69.000
As displayed: €85.265

According to the person I spoke to the RS4 will be available on the road late January.

ENJOY!!!

Note the material. It is possible to get this for the hand brake as well.

Note the red stitching.

Sorry for the red over exposure. Quite difficult color to capture.

If you didn't hear me. Order the titanium wheels...!!!

Piano look in the grill is not my taste. Looks better in the picture than in real life.

People here were bitchin more than some Katrina victims about the price being even north of $75K! If they see $100K, they'll just faint!!!:hihi:

It is speculated that it will run @ $75K US. Well worth it if you have the budget.

Erik, cool pics - many thx for posting. Now we know how the inevitable outgoing RS4 Plus will look like! However, I am happily now sure that will not order any of these options. Plus suspension and all looks business but ride is probably rubbish. And nope, no suede wheel for me. Titanium alloys and black optics? Acquired taste I believe: did not personally like them on the RS6+. Red stitching and piping mats really nice but the inlays....

Were these wheels a matte or satin finish? It's the color I've been looking for and was hoping Audi would offer it.

Erik
November 29th, 2005, 18:05
More satin I would say. It didn't 'eat' the light so to speak, so a bit shiny. "Ghost" like. :vhmmm:

Perfect. I like the black diamond finish on some BBS wheels so this new titanium finish Audi wheel is pretty close to it.

Imo they should match the mirrors, exhaust pipes, window trim and the trim ring around the grill w/ the titanium wheels so everything would match. I'll be ordering the titanium wheels w/ Avus silver regardless but if all of the trim would match it would be quite nice. Those wheels are meant for Avus silver

Stupid Question: What are "Titanium" Wheels?
Is it just the color?
Or is it made of a titanium alloy? If so, is it lighter as well as stronger than aluminum wheels?

Erik

Color only.

What hapends wehn you press ''S" buton on the steering wheel,
you get light speed or something like that?

November 30th, 2005, 08:22
The side sections can be inflated individually by means of two buttons on the seat or by pressing the Sport button on the steering wheel, and thus fit themselves perfectly to the driver’s anatomy. Pressing the Sport button also modifies the characteristic line of the accelerator, producing a more graduated engine response. That's from the pressrelease.

November 30th, 2005, 12:39
Not according to the US dealers. While the US does not get the cool seats and the inflating airbags, we also apparently don't get the increased "sport mapping" of the ECU. This as the dealer said all the button does is make the exhaust sound sportier.

I will be investigating, as this is the first sign to me that the interior of ths US version is not all that has changed.

Hi there,

since I'm pretty decided to go for an RS4 as soon as possible I went to the Audi Forum in Neckarsulm today(that's the main Customer Delivery Building, the Quattro GmbH is also located there).

My main goal was to get an idea about the color, but also got some interesting news that fit this thread.

The different steering wheel (including the different leather on the steering wheel and shift knob) is an option at Euro 595.-.
Nice on the track, too sensible for me(will wear off; sweat).

The black trim(normaly silver around windows and the single frame) should be 'about' Euro 400. Nice on the brighter colors.
Especially on the yellow(silver trim is not so nice imho).

The different leather color(including the colored seams) and colored rims on floor mats would be 'about' Euro 3000.-

Did not get info on different alloy wheels.

Some other things I learned:

The so called 'Multi-Function' Steering wheel definitely is not my choice. It's not the sports steering wheel(with the silver bottom part). The sport wheel has the S button a set button on the left side and plus minus buttons on the right side. These are used for the driving info system but not for radio or telephone.
If you take the multifunction wheel the S button must be somewhere else(the Audi Guy was not quite sure about this).
This info still has to be verified.
As a consequence, only if you get the telephone atachment on the side of the front console, you can take the 'sporty' steering wheel.

The sunroof with solar cells is not a glas sun roof. The normal sunroof has a movable underside that means you get additional sunlight without opening the roof.

What else... Colors, ah ja:
there was a yellow RS4 in the showroom. Drove a yellow S3 for 4 years and always liked the color(never got bored).
The RS4 imho also looks very nice in yellow probably one of the most 'dynamic' colors(like sprint blue and mizano).
Nothiong for one who likes to be inkognito.
Before I almost had ruled out yellow, now I'm not so sure.
My other favourites are avussilver and daytonagrey(better for somebody who would like to tell his customers 'it's an A4 with sports wheels').
I'll have another appointment on the 7th of Dec.(testdrive and more colors).

Ah, ja, another info: ordering now, we are looking at KW14(calendar week 14; middle of April).

Oh, yes and: in the opinion of 2 quattro emplyees, the normal seats (the normal seats are the very sporty seats with the inflatable sides) are best with the cloth(not with leather; only leather sides). That was interesting for me, since I just thought, hell if you get leather for free take it. But it's true(imho), leather is colder, slippier and you sweat more. Hmmm will think about that, the test drive car will have these cloth seats, I'll see then.

Allright, that's it for now, have to go and configure my car again.

Rainer,

Welcome to the forum.:thumb: The Neckarsulm Forum is impressive, isn't it? I don't think that it is the main Audi Forum though (may be the main quattro one), as the main one is still Ingolstadt (much bigger).

yeah, those options really add up! Other post Erik has shows 20K Euro over base model! And really, almost none of it is performance "upgrades"!

I'd stick with base, and get the best bang for the buck.

Hi Ben,

yes, correct of course, Ingolstadt is the Audi headquarter.
Neckarsulm once was the main(I believe the only) plant of NSU(they made a cute little car called the 'Prinz' and the Ro80 with the wankel engine).
I guess I was still impressed by the Audi Forum writing it. Also have been to Ingolstadt in 2000 (when I got my S3) and remember it to be smaller (then).
Its definitely worth a visit, although the trip for you is far more time-consuming.

Ok, end off topic.

Rainer

Does anyone know whether the US will have the "sport" steering wheel with the flat, silver bottom? I had heard from a dealer here some time ago that the US may not have that steering wheel.:vhmmm:

Ben, I don't know if there is the MAIN Audi Forum. Of course, the one in Ingolstadt is at headquarters, but the new Audi Forum in Neckarsulm dwarfs the one in Ingolstadt if you don't include the Museum Mobile (http://www.museummobile.de/). I have not been to Neckarsulm yet, but twice to Ingolstadt. But if you look at these pictures (Audi Forum Neckarsulm (http://www.audi.de/audi/de/de2/erlebniswelt/audi_foren/neckarsulm.html)) - it is very impressive!

welcome Rainer...and thanks for the pics Erik.

just a quick respone on some of the comments I've read:

Yes, that car will look super bad azz in black w/titanium (also known as anthracite) wheels.
Yes, that steering wheel material seems to throw the whole interior out of wack.
Yes, that car is worth more than 75K, eazzzy.
Yes, the US will probably get short-changed on the specs and receive the Q7 wheels and the A3 interior.
and YES, if you buy one you can take me for a drive.

The steering wheel fabric, the Pzero Corsa tires along wth things you cannot see such as the "famous track programing" for gps, and sport suspension are part of a special package that will not be part of the US offering.

I like the wheel fabric. Its the same wheel fabric that is offered on he track package on the Lambo Gallardo. Its a grip thing, as normal leather wheels suck on the track as your hands sweat.

metalic = more flakey... like small glitter in the paint... micro reflectors that each sit at a different angle under the clear coat that each give differnet lighting

pearl = smooooth, adds depth to the paint

benman can probably pin-point on this subjuct as he did with the "chrome/mirror" paint

As far as i know, no flat bottom wheel. We will have the "S" button. It will be located next to the ESP button in the center stack. I believe it will fill the seat base bolsters on the Recaro seats we will be getting. It will also change the exhaust note, not sure about the remapping. All that is anyway is sharper throttle response.

The Corsa tires should be standard fare. I doubt the black optics will ever see the States, unless you can get your dealer to do an "Exclusive" order. The rims may be an option later in the production run. Please keep in mind the 1st few months production for the U.S. will be spec'd by the Quattro boys. We only will have a choice of exterior color.:rs4addict

Great pics :rs4kiss: .. I have a question: the photo of the exhaust appears to show 2 round pipes within the oval tail pipe, one with a butterfly valve a la MTM exhaust. That is new, yes? (e.g. not on the RS6 enhanced exhaust?)

Hi, I'll be purchasing the B7 RS4 in Nogaro Blue.

I was told the US Spec RS4's are fully loaded, however the salesperson I'm working with couldn't confirm whether or not the 19" alloy wheels are standard or not ? Does the US.Spec RS4 get the 19" alloy wheels.

Main thing however, is the carbon fiber trim standard ?

Where can I get the Euro Spec RS4 Steering Wheel ?

Thanks.
