This week on Top Gear, we take a look at a wannabe supercar, James, Richard and Jeremy all head back to the Isle of Man for one of their world-class arguments about which car is best, and Trevor Eve, star of Waking the Dead, came by for a truly hair-raising lap of our track.

Car survey

First off, don't believe everything you hear on TV. We have the results from the Top Gear 2005 Car Survey. You can find them on our cunningly named '2005 survey' page. Goodness only knows where we keep the video and wallpaper downloads...

Ascari KZ1

So, you have £235,000 burning a hole in your pocket and you want some sort of a supercar. You want your engine in the middle, you want it to have, at the very most, two doors, and it has to hug the road like a toddler hugs its mother.

All in all, the Ascari KZ1 sounds like it might be the solution to your car-related dilemma. Named after a Formula 1 legend, a man who still holds the record for winning every race in a season it has a 5 litre BMW V8 engine, which can slap 500bhp on the tarmac, and take it to 100mph in a little over eight seconds. It also looks great, has fantastic build quality and the interior of a real car, not the chicken wire and tinfoil of say, a Lotus. The switches and buttons are all made especially for the Ascari, which means no ten-year-old Escort buttons. The same can be said for the magnificent exterior. You won't find any Mondeo headlight clusters here.

So then is it a supercar, or just a very, very good sports car? Richard claims the latter, saying it needed more ten-year-old boy passion to it. Of course, if you're spending £235,000 on a car, you'll probably be telling your mates it's a supercar...

Want to know how fast it went around the Top Gear track? Find out on the power laps page.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage versus BMW M6 versus Porsche 911 Carrera S

If the magical car fairy visited you in the middle of the night, and offered you any one of the above, which would you choose? It's a hard question to ask, but your heart is probably telling you one of them is the one for you.

And this is an odd part of the market too, because the Porsche has 140bhp less than the BMW, but in terms of putting its power through rubber and on to the road, it is the superior car. The Porsche 911 is a 40-year-old design now, which isn't as much of a disadvantage as you might think. It has matured with age. The 911 engineers know the engine is in a stupid place, and they've worked hard to make the car brilliant in spite of that. The Aston of course wins hands down on looks and sound. Its V8 engine produces a magnificent roar, it looks the best of the bunch, and unlike the BMW it won't make the general public hate you. The advantage of the BMW is that it can summon 500bhp. The distinct downside is that stupid computer system, which is both difficult to use, and nearly completely useless. Unless, that is, you want to set the length of time it takes the lights to go out if the wind is blowing from west to east, and the moon is in a waning gibbous phase.

At the end of two days arguing, fishing, being rained on and more arguing, the result was two votes for the Porsche, and Jeremy insisting that the Aston was his choice of car.

Star in a reasonably priced car

Trevor Eve, star of Waking the Dead, was this week's guest, and the latest to break one of our Lianas. Although, to be fair, it wasn't really his fault that the wheel fell off. It was a shame though, because The Stig said that Mr Eve could have possibly gone on to break Jimmy Carr's lap time. Still, in the end he got a very good time of 1.48.4.
