Pics from Ingolstadt : Audi executive car with ceramic brakes.

Let's hope this will be soon an option for the RS4

I have a gut feeling Porsche is behind those brakes. Anyone care to confirm this?

Just as long as they work and are durable then there's going to be a few happy campers.

Damn, i look's nice! :D

And they will probably work good too... as you said now let's hope that you can get it as an option to the car!

I'm hearing that they will be an option, but be prepared to spend £3000 for them in the uk!!

I can't justify that for day to day use.

As always, great post Fab - thx.

The price indeed seems very steep but it is I suppose dependent on personal preferences and needs. For example, the brakes are apparently according to Dave's sources broadly same money as sat nav + TV + adaptive lights + CD changer - a very common spec at least in Germany. This is of course a strange reference point for assessing the price but it stems purely from my personal and subjective lack of price adjusted appreciation for sat nav rather than anything else and no offence intended. In the A8 W12, Audi promises a unsprung weight saving of 5kg per corner with ceramics. I wonder if you can sense that kind of a weight saving in the real world in agility and composure. I remember reading that Autocar at least felt that a 911 with ceramic brakes feels subjectively more alert and better damped also in the real world. If it is worth all the money in the real world and outside track use I have no idea - probably not as Nordschliefe has argued before on this forum.

We should remember things go forward and not backward. The first components in PCCB Porsche did offer in the begining when PCCB was new is not bound to be the same ingrediens material now. Just a reminder.

So we should not refer to old post by guys not liking new tecknologi.

My opinion is pccb do last longer than steel ditto, and fore sure is not braking bader than steel ditto. Prices are as well comming down.

Ps. An exampel a DTM karbonfiber pad or rotor its like a bag of popcorn in weight, i carryed them, its unreall light. Unsprung weight is crucial in racing, but even kicks up the driving joy in road cars, so why not. Ds

This special Audi B7 RS4 doesn't have only "Audi Ceramic" brakes, but also a superb tan leather interior from "Audi Exclusive" quattro GmbH. :hahahehe:

Here all the pix from this VIP RS4.

Dave, that does sound pricey, but a fair amount cheaper than the same option on a 911TT no?

I think this is the exact reason Chevy did not introduce the new Z06 with that option. Too many would not take it as it would be out of budget. They were saying once price could be brought down more than maybe...

I got carbopads and they can take it, when you give it to them. Well its not 100% carbon:D but its one of component.

Edit. Just so no read wrong, karbonfiber and PCCB is not the samme. But my point is that unsprung weight is.

Read what Audi USA say about the ceramic rotors, and they may convince some of you that are so negative about the new tecnologi.

The latest German AMS contains an interesting test: RS4 std brakes vs. RS4 ceramic brakes. The conclusion from the 3. step test: there is no visible difference in braking performance. Big money and hype, but little to show for it.

Sure, the ceramic brakes are 5.5kg lighter per front corner than the std ones and they may have some benefits in really hard track work and longevity - but all of us who have tried the RS4 on the track know that it is not at home there anyway so the std brakes should be fine in the real world...

Like on Porsche, the big plus of Ceramic Brakes is how long they last. No possible comparison on track. The same problem will happen for the people who live in mountains like the french Alpes.

Cheers,
Frederic

I can't speak for how ceramic brakes, but on the last Porsche track day I was at, the standard brakes on the 997 Carerra S I was driving started to fade badly after only 15 minutes on the track. And before you all ask, yes there was some hard braking from over 110mph on every lap but apart form that no other corners demanded much from the middle pedal.

There was one car there that had ceramics and the talk from those lucky enough to drive it said the brakes where amazing.

Can we retrofit the Ceramic brakes on the rs4? if yes who should be doing it Audi or a tuning company?

MR USER , Yes Audi has the option but it is expensive . A WTCC pilot who was the instructor at an "Audi Rs4 track day" said to me that the Ceramic brakes were superb (They were installed on an S8 at that event ) but that the Rs4 ones were the best brakes that Audi have in a car , with no fade at all .

I understand that the unsprung weight is far better with them and they look very very good .:mech:

That's exactly my point. A normal driver (meaning not a professionnal pilot) will never see the limit of ceramic brakes. Never. That a lot different than normal brakes. Specially on an heavy car like the RS4 V8.

Personnaly, I will take this option If I was ordering an RS4 V8.

Cheers,
Frederic
