Just surfing for a new Radar Detector to replace my confiscated Valentine One.

Funny as hell....

Beltronics is located in Mississauga, Ontario.

Canada does not mind allowing radar detector to be made in Canada, just not used there.

That's like the US allowing the commercial production of Crack Cocaine and Methamphetamines, but punishing their use.

Pathetic.

I'll pass on buying a radar detector made in Canada. Beltronics is out....

Escort....ummm...bought out Beltronics, but is located in Ohio....

Valentine 1 made in Ohio as well.

I'll probably get another V1.

Totally logical, at least if you use government logic. A Canadian business on the one hand, tickets to criminals endangering society with their radar detectors on the other - either way, money goes into the economy. :trash:

Yep, in their mind, makes PERFECT sense!:trash:

Kinda like here in the States, tabacco companies can sell products that KILL the government's citizens...as LONG as the tabacco companies pay the GOVERNMENT a fee (out of a $3.75 pack, $2.50 goes to the government!!!) for each pack they sell!!!:trash:
Why does the government alow people to sue the tabacco companies when their loved one dies? THEY (the government) make the most profit! So much for the "truth" commercials!

Ok, the Tobacco issue....

Smoking is Legal (dumb, but legal)

Radar detector use in Ontario is Illegal, yet they manufacture them there! That is the irony.

I get ya,

remember, smoking AND drinking were banned in the past, but government found it more profitable to re make it legal.

As for radars, there were in the past a lot of States that for a while you could buy it, but NOT use it (CA being one).

Similar to the California ferret law. You can own one, buy pet supplies for it (EVERY Petsmart AND PETCO in this ENTIRE State stock supplies for them), yet it is ILLEGAL to buy one in the State of California! You must drive to Neveda and "smuggle" it into California!!! Once home, you may freely exhibit the animal without fear of confiscation (remember, legal to own here), yet if they catch you bringing one over the Neveda/California border...:nono: How FREAKING dumb is THAT!:trash:

My point, MANY,MANY laws are :trash: :trash:

New V1 is installed....as a newer version it has better POP protection, 5 years newer technology.

I spoke with a man from POINTTS in Canada, very very helpful folks there for sure.

Apparently there is a legal glitch in Ontario Law which does not give the OPP the opportunity to give you a specific ticket with a fine and a mailing address! As explained to me the Law making the use of or even the presence of one in your car was written but did not include the legal ease to allow them to print a proper ticket book - now that is strange, but no surpise.

So everyone pulled over for a Radar Dector Violation has to present to court - to be told their fine - and then you can pay. There is little reason to fight the ticket/fine since they will have the radar detector in hand in court, and the law is such that even the posession of the radar detector is illegal!

I am going to try to speak with the person in charge at the court to determine if I can skip the process and just send a check.

The other thing is that since there is no similar anti radar detector law in New York State, there is no way to place points against ones license!

I do not believe that you can get any points against your license for driving violation OUTSIDE of United States.

Wrong (according to NY State Police).

If the violation is a like kind (i.e. speeding is speeding everywhere) and there is Reciprocity (like between states) which there is between Canada and New York State (shame on NYS), then you are treated just as though you committed the offense in your home state.

Since there is not a law against radar detector use in NYS, there is no like kind offense.

may be worth asking some friendly shark if you'd get some s**t about that - Reciprocity on law violations may be ok within US but as Canada is a different country one would think that this is more in the Fed's hands, not individual state like NYS ....

You get punished home for something which may not be considered offense (like speeding 5 mph over posted limit). If this is true than it sucks major time because it most likely will get reported to your insurance man .... I'd bet that this was sponsored by the industry anyway - they already have history of handing out free radar guns to cops and getting back speeding driver info ..:vgrumpy:
