After reading Ben's (Benman) posts on his trip to Germany and the laps around the Nurburgring, I have talked the wife into taking a little detour on our vacation in September.

We were originally going to Munich for Oktoberfest (which we still are doing:) then driving to Austria and the Italy for two weeks in various locations. But now we are flying into closer to the Ring.....what I would like to know is. Does anyone know of a rental car place that rents higer end cars near the Ring:hahahehe: ?

As, I will be looking to put some time in at the track.... and the miss's is insitant on drving the track as well. So looks like we be doing to different sessions.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You can rent Porsches and such, but you need 2 unlimited credit cards. I have also heard stories of people being charged for clutch, brakes, tires etc. so beware if you're on a tight budget.

Also beware - the closer to the 'Ring you rent, the more likely there is of a paragraph in the contract that says you can't go there, or if you have an accident you pay.

A couple of friends rent a Z4 - nice choice if you ask me. Perhaps a bit small for 2 weeks of luggage?

Please DO read the ideal line guide: http://www.rs6.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7115
and also make sure you get the latest EVO which has a long feature to make your visit better.

Dorint Hotel is the best **** - but I would prefer Tiergarten.

I'll be back with more info... :race:

hmm... two unlimited cards....I am guessing they can both be from the same company....because I only use American Express and do have two from them.

But good advice....truthfully, I am not planning on pushing the car all that hard maybe 7/10ths or so. Frist time and not being my car...though I should be a little reserved.

Thanks for the Hotel recommendations....I will foward this page to my wife as she is the travel agent:D

Funny you mentioned the EVO...I just picked it up.

I was thinking a ride in the Ring Taxi might be fun as well.

Thanks for your help Erik.

You're welcome. My pleasure!

The Ring Taxi is usually booked long ahead - make sure you call the number in EVO ASAP to check. Otherwise check the Zakspeed Viper :hahahehe:
http://internet.zakspeed-nuerburgring-rennfahrerschule.de/pages/e_index.php

Dorint Hotels http://www.dorint.de/home_uk.html
Hotlink: http://www.accorhotels.com/accorhotels/fichehotel/gb/nov/5417/fiche_hotel.shtml

And...regardless of how YOU driver, others may crash into you. (I'm not saying there's a big risk, it's not - but it has happened)
Well, of course, they should pay but a friend got his GT3 hit and the German Police didn't think it was too obvious who was to pay since the other guy spoke fluent german.

Don't let this put you down! But some precaution will make you feel better when driving.

My friends rent the Z4 at BUDGET.

check these sites and offcourse all that has been said by Erik:

http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/carhire.html (to hire a car). http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/ (main page)

and this one: http://www.heiser.net/documents/nurburgring

You'll read almost everywhere that Avis is the way to go.

All I can say is...be carefull, but have one hell of a time.

YEEESSSSS!!!:D Haha, that is SO cool! Good for you Ben. I can tell you that you will absolutely NOT regret it. It is awesome.

I stayed here: http://tiergarten.mw-cd.net/index.php?id=47, great place as well.

Ring Taxi is usually booked well in advance as Erik mentions, but worth a call. And with the Taxi, again, will not regret. Money well spent.

Rentals, there are places that rent Porsches (pricey) but I couldn't get one (had to be 30 years old:blush: ).

As Erik said, a Z4 would be nice. If VAG is what you want to stick with, there are plenty of Audis (mostly A3s,4s, and 6s) available in manual).

Also, good point by Erik about not renting too close. I rented my A4 from Enterprise in Frankfurt (about 1 1/2 hour from the Ring). They have all kinds of cars to choose from if you give them enough notice. Their info:

Enterprise
Mainzer LandstraBe 320
60326 Frankfurt
Tel: 0 69/90 73 66-0
Fax: 0 69/90 73 66-70

www.enterprise.com
There are also other places in Koblenz (which is only 30 minutes away).

Can't WAIT to hear what you and your wife think of The Ring!:thumb:

Ben:addict: (PS, find someone that has GT4 on PS2 and have a few rounds on the Nordschleife, it really does do a great job of teaching you the turns. Cause there are LOTS!:D )

Glad to hear that you are going to the worlds most exiting track:MTM:

Do you know what dates in sep you are going, cuse we are some friends trying to go down in sep as well.

The ring taxi is fully boked one year in the future.

I know you can rent a lambo Gallardo for 1600 eur, and a deposit of 6000 eur.

I can relly recomend a cheep but relly fun to drive rental, the new Golf GTI, it so good chassi that you will not even feel its front wheel driven. And the steering is super, this car rocks for the small money it cost new. Around the ring it would be perfect as it very neutrall and safe and very sporty:thumb: And if you stress it some it will come out in relly nice controlled oversteer.

Cool to hear that the wife is driving as well, my wife drove some laps on her own many years a go, need i to say a was standing in the pit :noshake:  but it went well!
Have fun, and report back.

Bauer, just a thought.

If you'll be gone for three weeks or more, that rental bill (especially something nice) is going to get quite steep. Might even consider shipping your S4 over and back. It will probably end up being even cheaper AND no worries about rental companies having issues with leaving the country.:hahahehe:

Plus, since you're VERY familiar with the car, you'd have more fun than in a rental. Just a thought. :)

Ben,

I would not even know where to start. Sounds like a cool idea but I am sure there would be ALL sorts of paperwork. Plus the S4 is not the most comfortable for the long drives these days:hahahehe:

I might do a search just to check it out.

The lambo sounds like fun...but if anything happend to it I would not be happy. I wonder if there is extra insurance I could get. Lots of research to do.

Are they selling the A3 quattro's in Europe yet? That might be a fun option...2.0t, maunal.

thanks for all the input...keep it coming.

Check these guys out. http://www.auto-salon-singen.de/
South of Stuttgart, worth a visit. They do have interesting rentals sometimes.

If a nice car is too expensive for a long period of time. Why not rent a lambo or something for just a day or too then rent a regular fun car like the A3 for the rest of youre trip?

Hey Bauer,

I just got a hand on the terms of Avis rental (Germany) in English. If you want, you can find it here (http://members.lycos.nl/freeirder84/Avis%20terms%20Englisch.pdf)

And a question to someone who knows about this stuff. Will I be insured on the Ring or not? Especially look at paragraph 4.

Hmmm,

welp back to the drawing board. Thank you for the heads up, it is greatly apprecieated.

We have a 996 Carrera reserved through Avis currently.... and it looks like we need to look elsewhere.... unless of course we want to take the risk.:deal:
