I was flipping through the norwegian cars-for-sale sites and one of the biggest shows the prices for all new cars for sale in Norway. This made me check the price for the SL55 AMG because i like it and then i said "hey, why go mad whe you can go insane?" and checked the price for the SL65 AMG... And my lord... What a price!!!! Is buying a SL65 instead of a SL55 really justifyable after you see the prices?

SL55AMG: 316 038.95 USD or 263 650.19 EURO (2 080 200 NOK)
SL65AMG: 440 421.75 USD or 367 414.45 EURO (2 898 900 NOK)

The difference is a staggering 124 382.8 USD or 103 764.26 EURO (818 700NOK) which could be spent on a Mercedes-Benz E350 Elegance...

This is mainly because when you get over aprox 170hp in Norway, you pay 1000kr ($151 or €126) per hp...

Whats the price difference in your country?

---------------------------------------------------

In Norway, the car-tax is calculated after weight, engine-displacement and power (kw) and are damn expensive.

Here are the prices in NOK:

Weight:
NOK 34,75 pr. kg of the first 1 150 kg
NOK 69,50 pr. kg of the next 250 kg (1151kg-1400kg)
NOK 139,00 pr. kg of the next 100 kg (1401kg-1500kg)
NOK 161,66 pr. kg of the rest (1501kg->)

Displacement:

NOK 10,26 pr. cm3 of the first 1 200 cm3
NOK 26,86 pr. cm3 of the next 600 cm3 (1201cm3-1800cm3)
NOK 63,18 pr. cm3 of the next 400 cm3 (1801cm3-2200cm3)
NOK 78,93 pr. cm3 of the rest

Power:
kr 134,22 pr. kW of the first 65 kW
kr 489,54 pr. kW of the next 25 kW (66kW-90kW)
kr 979,38 pr. kW of the next 40 kW (91kW-130kW)
kr 1 657,36 pr. kW of the rest

1USD = 6.58 NOK
1EURO = 7.89 NOK

Finland (not sure on what they base taxes)

SL55 AMG - 210 500€ / $252 420
SL65 AMG - 329 000€ / $394 520

And I always thought we had expensive cars... :)

"Socialist"meaning ridiculous taxation ,causing these stupid, forbiding prices on cars like SL,higher taxes on everything ,to support the welfare system that is way overbuilt in Scandinavian countries and will eventually lead to serious economic trouble.

I so agree in "ridiculous taxation ,causing these stupid, forbiding prices on cars like SL" but thats all. I believe in that our welfare system is put together in a way that everybody is taking care of. Because of this system I dont have to walk over homeless people in the streets where ever I go, like in many other countries....

Futhermore what do u base your statement "will eventually lead to serious economic trouble" on? This system has worked for over a 100 years now, and I think we are doing just great. For instance the system allows me to take my masters degree for "free" - one option u obviously hasnt had...

Make sure not to throw bricks when one lives in a glass house.:D

Go read the Creature from Jeckyll Island and then let me know what you think about "Socialist".;)

That's funny. How could your education possibly be free? When cars are priced about $200,000.00 too high and someone still buys it, guess what? That man just PAID for your education! I would hardly say it is "free". :D

Yeah, hopefully absent knows what I mean as well. Almost every country on this planet is Socialist (one form or another, and some much worse than others) INCLUDING the "Land of the Free".

All sarcastics aside, the Creature from Jeckyll Island is an EXCELLENT read and I highly recommend it to anyone who thinks the US is NOT a Socialist country.

Seriously, everybody. Read the book. You'll laugh unconfortably, drop your jaw in denial, then cry yourself to sleep because there's not a thing you can do about playing in a seriously rigged game that is very much not in your favor. It's by Edward Griffin.

Ben, you forgot to mention the subtitle to the book - A second look at the Federal Reserve.

Unfortunately I have to agree,US is more leaning the wrong way every year.
Growing up in a Communist system made me more sensitive to the unfortunate changes here ,since I moved to US in '82.
And of course, nothing is "free" in any Country,if you get a dollar ,another dollar is confiscated from someone else....
