Man, I nearly had to cry. It's always very tragic when things like this happen.
(going to post it here, for when it's removed on the main site)

A private car club was renting the speedway at the time of the crash.

A Porsche Carrera GT crashed into a retaining wall and came to rest on the track's infield. Authorities said two people were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second person in the car was transported by Mercy Air to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. That person later died.

The track is home to the California 500, Nextel Cup 500, the Toyota Indy 400 and other motorsport events. The 2-mile D-shaped oval surrounds an infield portion used for road courses and a 13-turn interior test circuit.

Private parties can rent the track to turn laps.

The article says the man's name was Ben, 39. Mr. Kram, correct me if I',m wrong, but isn't that the SAME Ben that I just met at the Carlsbad car meet!?!

That is a tragedy and my deepest sympathies go out to his and his passengers families.

Ben:addict:

From 6speedonline:

"According to what I read on pelican parts, a ferrari was let onto the track while Ben was traveling at 150mph+, he came on the car quickly and had to swirve to avoid the car, lost control and hit the retaining wall. Apprently the impact was such that the wall moved 4-6 feet. The passenger compartment was intact in looking at the pics but the shear g forces must have been what caused the most damage to Ben and his occupant. The passenger was apparently a guy interested in purchasing a Carrera GT and Ben took him for a ride in his car."

This is vey sad. I only spoke to the man for 5 minutes, but he seemed nice. Now I read on the their forum that he leaves behind wife and little girl.

As a father of a 5 year daughter myself, I can only imagine the pain his wife is going through. I will keep his death in mind during my time on the Nurburgring (there is no such thing as too much caution).

A accident can happen to every on no matter what. Accidents are allways going to happen, even to the gyus that just critisizes others and them selves they think they are in full controll.

Well you are in full controll to the time comes when you are not!!.

As in the case whit the M5 in Sweden i think the tone in genral is bad. Other peopel have so much to say, they cant drive, why by a sportscar if they cant handel it and so on, this is so 14 years old talk, it will happen to them selves one day and then they will be enlighten, its not fun.

As Ben say i will also give my deepest sympathies to his and his passengers families.

And of course at times like this i ask my self is it whort to put one self at risks like this. My tier blow on Nurburgring in 160 km/h and every thing went well, we keep the car on track whit minimum damage. But what if it blew over swedenkrutz at the ring, the RS6 had always 250km/h on speedo over the big bump ther. Well what had happend then, we never know

This is very true. I'm sure this guy could drive his car, but when something unexpected happens, you're most likely not going to be in control of the situation anymore.

Got this link (http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=27660&perpage=15&pagenumber=7) from another thread. It's kind of a tribute to the driver. It's nice to see that a lot of people are so touched by it. I didn't know him at all, but it still touches me very much.

My condolences go out to his wife, baby, family, friends...
