Sorry for new thread.. but this really is a different subject than my prior post about the customer advocate question.

I got a call from my advocate (Angela) and apparently, Audi issued a technical bulliten about a fix for the Onstar yesterday. There is a new part available that involves some hardware swap on the onstar.

Here are the details:

Technical Bulliten
Group 91 05-02 (this is the critical part for identification purposes)
March 14, 2005

Telematics by Onstar
Switch assembly light is red
2003 RS6

This should be enough information to take to your dealer and have them understand the bulliten.

I was advised to be sure that appropriate parts were ordered prior to bringing the car in as this would not be a part your dealer would have in stock.

I wish that my calls into the system were the cause of this.. of course, many of us have complained about this.

I just told them last week that they were making a BIG mistake to ignore the RS6 owners on this issue and that they should read RS6.com to find out what we are talking about..

so.. let's see if this is BS or something real!

This may be very good news! The assistant svc mgr at my Florida dealership said in December that a permanent fix was on the way, due around March. Hopefully this is it & it'll work!

Great detective work JK! Thanks for posting full info, as I'm sure most of us will use it to get the issue fixed once and for all.

Now that they took my car up and got it fixed I wonder if they would sale it back to me for a good price?

Went to Clair dealership to order stock DPs, and the Bill in the service dept. told me that there was a new part for the OnStar system, and if I wanted he could order it for me immediately.
I explained that I use the VAG tool to reset it or turn it off entirely depending on my mood, but that he could order it and I'd have them replace it.

I did not even bring up the issue about OnStar. Clair is still king in my books!

PS: JK ... Rob says hi, and he wants to check out your new sound system too. I told him to get in line.

This is only an update. I did not see the need to start a new thread just to issue an update to something that has been talked about at nauseum.

It's been a couple of months since Clair Audi has done the Telematics OnStart fix. The light is still green and going strong. No issues.

If you have not done this fix, it's possible that you just enjoy the red light best, or have not had time for such a mundane fix, which is perfectly fine.

If you have a vag tool however, and you wish to play with the OnStar system, go red/green at your own pleasure, here's some info.

1. Log into the Vag software, and click the Confort/Convenience tab:

2. Choose the '75 - Emergency Call' button:

3. Once you are in the 75 controller, click the 'Adaptation - 10' button:

4. Go to channel number '08' for reading:

5. If you want the OnStar light red forever, you have to turn the Emergency Battery system OFF. Place a '2' in the 'New Value' field, press the 'Test' button, and than proceed to click on the 'Save' button. Click 'Done, Go Back', and restart the car, and should be all set:

6. If you want the light back to green, and it's currently in a red state, you must RESET the Emergency Battery system. To reset, you enter value '1' into the 'New Value' field, press the 'Test' button, and lastly do a 'Save'. Click 'Done, Go Back', and restart the car:

7. Now that your car is back on, get that Vag software going, and change the Emergency Battery system to ON. Enter '0' into the 'New Value' field, press the 'Test' button, and 'Save'. Click 'Done, Go Back' and you should be done:
