View Full Version : US RS4: no avant, steering, seats, 19"wheels...no $

The RS4 is going to be an awesome car to own, but without some of the key features in the model coming to the US, I think I'll wait for the S6.

-no avant.
-no Gallardo style steering wheel.
-no RS4 sport seats (the special ones)
-no 19" rims
-no tiptronic (i know that most will prefer man., but in the city--with kids--it can be not-so-good!)

At a certain level I understand that these decisions are business decisions, but to me it displays a little bit of a 'follow the leader' attitdue. I mean, the RS4 is NOT an M3, nor do most of us want it to be.

First off, from an Audi employee I know, that was 'spoken' to by AoA reps.....

a. We WILL get the 19's.
b. Not getting the steering wheel, he has no idea where that rumor came from.

The seat issue sucks for sure.
No avant suck as well.

I have a Tip in my S4 and can't wait to get back to a manual, considering DSG won't be available on a Longitudaly mounted motor until MY2008.

What does kids have to do with the selection of gearbox?

can i assume you don't have kids? driving takes on whole new levels of difficulty when you've got a couple of screaming rugrats behind you... in the end though, manual is certainly doable and it would be a lot of fun.

as for the steering wheel, and all of this stuff for that matter, it's still largely speculation until the specs get released.

so will the 19" wheels be options here?

the AoA rep that talked to the guys at one of my dealerships said we WILL get the 19"s and had no idea bout this NO flat bottom wheel in the US, so..... take it for what it's worth.

I don't have kids, actually but I still don't see how they are related. With that logic, are you more likely to jump off the clutch too quickly, say when the cell phone's ringing, too? Not trying to be arrogant or anything here, just saying that once you're accustomed to a manual, you don't get distracted. Or shouldn't be.

Ok, you're probably right: I'm sure I'd get so used to using a manaual again that I would operate it without even blinking...but there is something nice about being able to go into auto mode when you're on the phone or reaching around to plug a baby's mouth with a binkie. True, the Tip is not as 'direct' as the pure manual.

Maybe it won't be a deal breaker. I think the space thing will be the ultimate issue. Maybe I'll go sit in the new S4 sedan and see how it feels. It also doesn't help that I'm 6'2".

Either way, both the RS4 and the S6 are going to both be smokin' machines.

I'm 6'4 and I fit in the S4 okay, but not great. Same story with my 6'3 dad, but I'd encourage finding out for yourself, because it also depends on your preferred driving position, seat height, and other factors.
