Hi,

Have you change the transmission fluid for the gearbox and for the rear diff. If so, which one did you use ?

Hi!

I know a couple of S6 and S6 PLUS owners in Sweden that uses the Castrol TAF-X 75W - 90 i the gearbox and they are very satisfied. I plan to switch to this oil this summer.

Here is a lube table (http://se.servicebooking.net/castrol/lubetable/audi_retail.asp?lang=se) from Castrol.

For the gearbox, I will use SAE 75W90. now I have a doubt for the rear diff. I thinkk it is a different one: SAE 90. I need confirmation this is correct.

Ok Mr. Balsen!

I have done some investigation;)

In the rear diff Audi says that you should use GL 5 SAE 90. The amount is 1,5 liter.

I hope i helped you a little :)

Thanks for your help. That what I thought.

And for the gearbox, it is 75W90 Gl4 / 5. do you have the same info ?

:0: Joakim also know as Magnum P.I.....:D

think that's indeed a correct oil

Mr Balsen
January 25th, 2003, 11:24
Very good.

I will change the fluid in the gearbox this afternoon as I have the right product. For the rear diff, I will have to purchase the other one.

How frequently do you change the transmission fluids ?

Mine has 165000 km and it is going to be the first time.

I just got 124000km. Oil seems ok. so I won't change it right now....

Mr Balsen, Iīve got a question for you:bunny2:

As you wrote that you got the same tires as me...bridgestone potenza s-o3pp....

How much air do you pump in them???

The original pirelli p6000 should be 3.0 bar. as the documents show, and if you look in the gastank filler cap. front and rear.
But the thing with my front tires was...that they worn out in the middle...:(
This is what you get when thereīs to much air in your tire. Of course I used them on the road and track...(normal trackuse I normally ad some extra air in it, a little)

The tire supplier was really surprised by that amount of air(3 bar)...but of course he didnīt know any cars with 255 tires in the front. As I look in a tirepressure advice tabel...I canīt find the s6plus...

I wanīt to treat my tires as good as possible . check them once a week, and of course..Iīm not stupid or so, but I was really surprised by the wear...

So what did you do with your potenzaīs. I just put them on 2.9..

How many air do you use, and what is your pressure when you go on the track
greetings

Mr. Balsen, let us know if noticed any difference after you changed the oil.

Did you use Castrol?

Ok 165000 km, well then i donīt have to worry for a while, i am only halfway there with my 83000 km ;)

And yes Magnum P.I thats me!:hihi:

I finally got my VAG-COM interface to work so today there will be some ECU-Surfing :p

Hi,

Unfortunately I did not change the oil yesterday. It is because when doing the oil change I discovered a leak on the steering pump. Seems to be an Volkswagen Audi weakness, but I am verifying if this is true. Unfortunately, I also discovered the head gasket of right bank (driver side) is about to blow up. this is not a very good news in deed. this is mainly due to a broken catalyst of the right line last year. the risk is a raising temperature of the bank with a high chance of dammaging the headgasket. This what happen to me as I broke the catalyst after a super fast trip at an average speed of 200 km/h during 2 hours. Obvioulsy the headgasket did not survive this problem, despite removing the catalyst afterward. So I a going to spend the month of february repairing the engine. While the engine will be open, I will use this opportunity to do 3 things if I find reputed professionnals and proven solutions:

- New Cam (Exhaust and Intake)
- Polish head (for a better flow)
- Better Exhaust

If you know companies which sell cams and exhaust (like b-n pipes) or are polishing head, I am very interested. It does not matter if the company is not loacted in France as long as the job done or the products are first class. I will take as many pictures as possible for a large report on www.audipassion.com

Mr Balsen.

If you have the documentation on how to do the headgasket replacement, I am very interested.

AudiS6PLUS
January 26th, 2003, 17:17
OH NO!! Thatīs bad news :vsad2:

But i think you was lucky, that you did see it before anything broke down completely.

I am sorry but i donīt know any companies that polishes cylinderheads. Doesnīt MTM sell Cams? This company in Sweden also sells Exhaustsystem (http://www.ferrita.com/) the systems are handbuilt after your specifications and it comes with a lifetime warranty. I think a catback system will cost around 900 EUR. The page are in Swedish, sorry :eye:

Of course i have the documentation on how to change the headgasket. I could send it to you by e-mail itīs in pdf-format, but itīs in German would that be a problem?

/Joakim

Mr Balsen
January 26th, 2003, 18:22
Well I am kind of very pessimistic. I mean there are early sign of head gasket problem. I knew it was the risk after the catalyst being broken last year in May. I will do a leak test and compression check to find out. With the V8, it is easy to find out: you compair both banks of cylinders !!! I will call MTM tomorrow morning.

I will keep you updated of the progress but I prefer to have it fix before it is getting worst.

Mr Balsen

AudiS6PLUS
January 26th, 2003, 18:32
Ok! Let me now if you want the documentation.

The values for the compression are: New engine = 14 Bar. Lowest acceptable value for a used engine are 9 Bar. Maximum deviation between all cylinders are 3 Bar.

If you didnīt know that already?

Mr balsen....

Damm extra work. If you need some certain information or so, mail me or just ask. friend of my got the original s6plus garage books...so a lot of paperwork. If you want a certain part, I can always make some copies. Unfortunately itīs not digital.
In those books, together with the laptop, you can measure almost anything. Or at least they write how to test every thing.

Unfortunately you donīt live around the corner, otherwise I came along with everything. Bet that would Joakim do too...
 hope everything will be clear...

ps. what about your tire pressure(see question some posts above).
other ps. I donīt got your email adress , to send you the syltmeeting info. I send you mail via this forum...did you get it??

Keep us informed about the things around your car. ...greeting and succes

Of course i would David!
S6PLUS owners should help eachother

I tested my VAG-COM interface today it worked perfectly:roll:

You said that your friend had the original S6PLUS garage books, do you know if there are any codelists in them? I need them find hidden functions with my VAG-COM :hihi:. Here is an example (http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec36.shtml) of what i mean.

I think itīs time that Erik B makes a "S6PLUS Smile" donīt you? ;)

I will ask him today Joakim. Of course the should be codes in it!!!

Do you use that computer programm yourself too?? to read out the engine , or to delete those messages like oilchange etc.....(after you put new oil on it:D ) it works perfect to read the fault codes. once my catalysator light showed up....plugged in the computer...did some thinking an found the fault.
Looked on ETKA, noticed number of article. ordered it in germany....and ready

the same thing would cost me when I went to a garage 1500euro. It costed me 200(material)

Haha A s6plus smile would be great...
you will hear from me:cool2:

Thankīs David!

I have some information, but i know there should be a lot more.:eye:

Of course i use the program myself to read error codes from all the control boxes. I donīt want to pay 60 EUR to the Audi dealer everytime i want to check something

No i will not use it to reset the service indications, i will leave the normal service to Audi because i want to keep my service book correct. But i donīt trust them so itīs good to have the VAG-COM to do some extra checking :deal:

Audi:s service organisation in Sweden has really really bad reputation, and there is always somthing that they havenīt done right when you get your car back from service :error: :argue:

Hello Joakim..I can understand your point of stamps from your audidealer...looks like a perfectservice history, and it should be:deal:

But my idea of my local audidealer is this:byeM5: , they didnīt even know my car...And in the garage are only those 18/19 year old kids working on my car...
They got no respect at all for a thing you keep as perfect as possible.
example. I bought new tires, so I let them put on. saw that a wheel fell down on the ground...result= small scratch......(of course itīs a small thing, but Iīm really carefully myself)

And the best thing of my service history will be: always maintained by a audispecialist...(my friend, and Iīm lucky with that...does the service of almost every ur-quattro in Holland, or rs2 etc...)
Thats why I can use those specific audi tools. It would be horror to change all the belts in my own garage...

tomorrow I will give him a visit, and will ask after the codes etc..:trash:

Hello Joakim, Iīm just back from my friend.. He was restoring a ur-quattro...perfectly..
I asked him after the s6plus garage books, and the code story. He thought there would be some extra codes in them...but there is so much info in those books...and the codes are not standing together...so he had to search all the paperwork.
Believe me..he has the books of almost every audi. A whole wall full of audigarage books. They are really hard to get.

But now comeīs the :bang: .......
He told me that he maybe would get everything on 10/20 discs.for the computer:D :D . that sounds really good. original garage stuff(or even the most garageīs donīt got everything)..
haleluja;)
So if I got a copy, I can make you one for sure...We will talk about it further by mail(itīs not really official)

tomorrow I go to Thomas of ts-tuning...Hope it wonīt be that rainy...difficult to drive really fast

I just spoke him. He will pick me up at a meeting spot in his black rs4:rs4addict , sounds good...

Hello Joakim,
here I'm back with some news....

Also yesterday I went to TS-tuning in Germany/ near Wolfsburg....VAG country...
For me was it 380 km....and of course 380 km back...:D but the drive was fantastic...autobahn, long curves....and pedal to the metal(due to the bad weather I didn't came above 220 km, but at least it's a free feeling driving that fast...without looking at any cops or camera's:incar:

I met Thomas near a big gasstation with a big burgerking!!!!. so first i went for a snack......later on we drove to his friend who knew everything about the bosch/vag/audi motor elektronic...And had all the official computer"tools"
By the way Thomas picked me up with his black rs4..., damm what a machine. black with black shadow line....and of course not the standard exhaust...what a nice noise did that machine make....(he also got a c4-s6 4.2, with a modified chip.....

When we came at his friends house...he wasn't there...(after some calls we found out that he was stucked in some traffic)...
But anyway....I didn't mind..we went for a ride...in Thomas rs4..damm what a sound and what a performance....//// once in some years i need one too:trans: , just to play with the devil...a total black one..(such a drive is in my eyes a perfect service)
Ok. we went back. took out the computerbox. And the tuning boys went to work. They "read "out all the info, and optimized the elektronica. As they do this as their official day job .....they know what they do....(really important in my eyes). it wasn't just a basic chiptuning matter. They also changed a lot of s8's computeres succesfull
They also took away the v- max restrictor. Further I heard a lot of extra info about the ecu's and "big"chiptune companies....

Well of course I was really curious about the car. Would I feel any Difference??....:( because I read in some stories that you hardly notice those kind of tunings...

Well, the car started....without smoke or so...//car runs perfectly, as nothing has happened..
We went to the road( thomas also in car) drove the car quitly warm...//everything still as normal....

Than it was time to do some serieus testing....
Well I don't know how to explain it...but I'm still smiling

:D :D :D :D :D :

In all the gears the car went as a rocket...I didn't expect this difference at all.
(the were talking about extra 15 bhp, and 40nm...) I could really feel the difference.... Yes!!:hihi: ...the stupid thing was , I had to shift quicker....there was more pull...(of course it's not as a big difference as if you chip a turbo engine)
But in my eyes it's really worth it. I was always a little afraid to damage my car or so.., but those guys knew everything about the elektronica..

normally you can pull the car till the restrictor...but now it pulls through..so you have to be more allert....;) but that's the only minor...

I paid them 300 euro's and went home....( compare to official chiptunecompanies this is really cheap)...

On the way home I ran the car for at least 2 hours over 220 km p/u...to check temperature, and to warm everything nicely up...
stopped at a parking...engine running, everything sounded :0: ...
drove away...full throttle...yes.. here came the smile again:D , yes there is a real difference

due to the bad weather I couldn't test the max, but i think that must be ok...
(do you remember the speedo photo on www.tots.ch?? from the s6plus):hihi:

Joakim, It was worth the trip/money and thoughts....As i'm thinking of a full pull at a traffic light ...I allready get smiley..

If you wan't to know more just ask....

ps...must be funny to overtake a restricted rs6 on the autobahn

AudiS6PLUS
January 30th, 2003, 19:12
Thanx for feedback David!

Did they switch the Chip or just the software?

Did they do any more modifications, like different airfilter and modifications on the airfilter box?

Do you still have your original exahaust system?

It sounds like the guys know what they where doing :deal:

If i should do it to my PLUS i would like to keep my original chip, so i can switch back if i want to.

Well maybe i should plan a trip to TS-Tuning this summer so i can hunt RS6:es on the autobahn http://www.tots.ch/typen/s6plus/fotoss6plus/vmaxk.jpg :incar: :hihi:

January 30th, 2003, 19:49
yo, Joakim..

cool picture...think that the rs6 drivers should see that one!!!!!!! hahahaha:0:
They did something with the software...the reprogrammed it...within the limits of course...
I allready changed the airfilter. I bought a k&n. use the same box...
nice "sucking" sound...and enough fresh air for my engine.
This is the maximum what i will do on my car....// maybe later when my exhaust will break someday....I will look for a better one..
But I like the results so far...
(i just on Mobile, s6plus and there was a tuned s6plus for sale...nowack chip...he wrote 70nm more!!!!, but that's hard to measure..., result we be almost the same as mine...but you know what I paid!!!)
I'm really happy with my result.

And of course if you plan to go once there...We can meet somewhere there....
It's alway nice to drive through germany:roll:

These comming weeks i will do some serious driving, And of course i will keep you informed.

by the way...you should know that i was a kind of affraid before i started the whole step of remapping....I don't want to mess with such a expensive and allready good engine.
But don't forget they build this engine better/stronger as a s8's engine....so it could handle easily a lot moer revs!!!
 I'm happy it worked ok...

Hehe!!

Yeah i thought that should give the RS6 owners something to think about :eye: :MTM: ;)

I just asked Marc if he couldnīt try and get TS-Tuning to Sylt for the Audi meeting

Yes i saw that PLUS on mobile.de, i think you will need some mechanical modifications, like other cams and/or polished cylinder heads to reach +70Nm.

It would be nice to hear if you will notice any differance in fuel consumption. So keep us informed

yep, got your mail. but I couldnīt open it...Iīm working on 3 different computers...tomorrow.,

Talked with thomas about Sylt too......:bunny2:
but that weekend he had to show up for his training for the army. he is a reservist. Hahaha and he wasnīt that happy about that..

Hmmm, besin consumption....the max yesterday evening for a moment was 42 liters for 100 km.....doing 260 for a short period...hahahaha fullpull
But thatīs known..

Maybe It will drink a little more bensin, but i donīt think that much

to tell you the truth...i donīt mind. Iīm not making that many kilometers.
But I never drive with my consumcomputer on!! I always put him on the reach funtion..than I donīt have to look at the bensin"speedo"

hey do

Tom changes the original software. But before he changes anything, he takes a copy of the software to his computer. Itīs no problem to change it back, even you can get a disk, with the original software. I think thatīs much better, than to change the hardeware-chip inside your blackbox...

Itīs even possible to send Tom only your blackbox and you will get the same software like David has -> much easier, than to go to Hannover. With TNT itīll take maybe 3-4 days.
