If you ever get the chance, pay a visit to THE SCHLUMPF COLLECTION National Motorcar Museum in Mulhouse, France.
The background on how this muséum was founded and how the cars were collected is worth a visit alone.
Allow at least 2 hours, expect 4 - 6 hours. You will never see this many Bugattis in one day, but there are many more great cars that you have never heard of.

Schlumpf Collection (http://www.collection-schlumpf.com/schlumpf/index.html)

This hall groups together cars from the collection which have raced. The first part is devoted to the "ancestors", and the second to the Grand Prix cars and cars taking part in the Le Mans 24-hour race.

THE ESDERS BUGATTI - Upon Fritz Schlumpf's insistence, this car was totally rebuilt in the museum's workshops from original parts.

This night-blue jewel-box contains 80 of the most beautiful cars from the 1930s, whose shimmering chrome seems to mirror the ages: Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Hispano-Suizas… and the famous Bugatti Royale. (worth about 12 million Euros...)

Note the the lamps, these are the same as on Pont Neuf in Paris.
The 'muséum' ordered about 900 lamps in secret...

Mercedes-Benz - The resemblance between this car and the famous Volkswagen Beetle is no accident; both were designed by Ferdinand Porsche.

Are you sure the Royale is worth 12 million €?
Their was a swedish buisness-man who bought one a Royale in the 80's and parked it in the lobby of his companys HQ. I think he bought it for around 10 million € but when we sold it in the 90's he only got something like 3 or 4 million € for it. :error:

Peter,

That was the 80's boom we all know about, followed by the recession, it was also the time when the Hyper Cars were being produced/launched, a good example of the 1980s/1990s recession was the Jaguar XJ220....Just watch how those prices/values fell...

As for the museum, Utterly speachless. :MTM:

I was there in 1998. I only had a 1,3mgpx camera, so the quality is a bit poor.

Yes the schlumpf museum is quite impressive.

But there is a private collection north of San Francisco which is not too bad either. I don't recall the name, unfortunately.

Now I prefer event like Monterey Historic or even better Le Mans Classic. Cars are built to be driven ! ! !

Cheers from Paris,
Frederic

If you are into Audi heritage, history, and tradition....the only museum (aside from Inglostadt) is the August Horch Museum and Factory in Zwickau, eastern Germany (the imperial home of Audi prior to 1945). A must see! A magniificent collection of the marquees of Audi , the actual villa that August Horch and his family resided, and the entire Zwickau Auto Union factory reproduced.
