they wanted to let car look like the GTI.. the two pipes in the middle are the one's of the R32 and to two pipes on the left side are the GTI one's.

The latest rumour will that the VW Golf V R-type will be an R34 with a 3.4-liter VR6 with 270 bhp and will be introduced on the I.A.A. Frankfurt September 2005.

Looks promising, the GTI is appraised all-round, so the R34 is going to be something... :D

The problem is that the press write every week a different story becorse they not now either.
But this info comes from German "Autobild" and they say it will be a R34 with 3.4-liter VR6 engine delivering 270 bhp.
The new Passat wil have the 3.6-liter VR6 with 280 bhp.

Thank you very much for clearing that up. Why would they not put the bigger displacement in their R-series as well, doesn't make any sense to me. Why not make only one size for all the cars, or put the one w/ higher performance in the performance car? No wonder they are having some economic issues at VW.

Why do they even build a R36?
Can anyone tell me why one should buy it?

I can't tell why one should buy it.
1) It will weight almost 1600 kg with the heavy 3.6 VR6.
2) The old R32 was allready not that good in cornering. (To nose heavy)
3) I think a 240-265 bhp 2.0-liter FSI turbo 4-motion version will much better handle in corners and a lot quicker overall and weight a lot less.

I prefer the previous body style better.
