Intressting.

I have notice this always when oiltemp geting over 120c. Often it seems geting this hot on shorter tracks i run not to much cooling. On ex nurbugring it never go so hot. Faster track give more colling. Not feell it on street even going hard.

I have not read the RS6 manuall but some here said after reading manual its a in built overheat sensor that controll this to prevent from not overheat. And i think i heard sensor feels when oil get to hot and it sitting in enine. But I not now for sure what it is or how it works or if it is?.

But What i do know fore sure is this limp thing have happend to me a few times on track onley geting over 120c, even the RS6 plus but it seemed to last longer before getting 120c and limp

I just took a good look at my car to see what you are talking about.

The frame used to direct air into the intake is not very effective at keeping hot air from the engine compartment from getting in to the intake....the funnel shaped channel has many open areas along the bottom and there is a tube from the radiator going across the one on the passenger's side of the car!!!

But I think that at speed air is forced down into those cracks as well pushing any hot engine compartment air down and away from the intake channel!

Does you Air Conditioning Fan actually push air upward against that flow of air as the car is moving?

I was actually surprised to see how small the cross sectional area of the intake is at the level of the silver pipe, it's too small for a finger to get in. I wonder if a larging intake channel would help too.

that opening....It looks like this may have been added after yours was made, or yours may have fallen off.. Either way, the modification you mention isnt needed on my car as the gap ( which isnt that much actually) has already been eliminated..this flap is on both sides btw..
Having said that, my car still loses tons of power when the air outside is hot.. Hoping for a better soultion for that one day.

If you read at the link, you will note that hot air gets blowned through the right side air intake (left bank).
Warm up your car, switch the aircon on, verify that the auxialliary fan is on, put your hand in front of the air intake while the car is idling and you will feel the hot/warm air blowiing against you hand.

If you have no air blowing out on either air intakes, than your fine. If indeed you have air blowing out ask someone to rev up the engine and you feel the air no blowing onto your hand anymore, so where does it goes? It's being sucked by the air intake.

That's exactly what I am talking about.

Now do as I expalined in the post above and you will understand what I mean.

All RS6's I have checked blow air through the gap when the aircon and x fan are on.

Since it is summer here and very hot, this may be more obvious for us.
