Sorry for the dumb question guys: what's so bad about the M5 brakes? 62 - 0Mph in 120ft. seems to be okay for a road car that big...

Is it fading?

Probably nothing. (disclaimer: Or time will tell.)

But all big cars have a problem with brakes, regardless of brand.

The old M5 can do about 20-25 hard laps on the Ring before changing the pads.

I am sure the logo on the Ring Taxi is advertisement. They sometimes change the pads, but into something everybody can buy.
The sport auto CSL also had upgraded brakes, nothing strange in that.

I guess the new M5 will have a time around the Ring in less than 8 mins, or at least very close to 8 mins.

There are different fades, but most common is that the breakefluid boils and the breake pedal get longer and longer to the flor. Its not bad breakes for this reason but often not racing breake oil in that can take more heat or bad old oil or overbreaked.

Often motor journalist drives a car hard and breake hard many times and then ofcourse stock oil will boil and it will fade. What this jornalist is not thinking of is that before him so many jornalist have done the same. This means the oil is boiled many times on pre test cars like E60 M5. And oil are of course losing its accualy boilingpoint and will boil at even lower temps compered to what it should when new and not boild. Always change oil if boiled!

Its very easy to boil stock oil if driving very hard at streeat and many hard breaking whit out accually cool the breakes down.

Its not like on track where you have your same breaking points all time lap after lap and in betwen you cooling things down. You are on the breakes or not! nothing inbetwen, espesaly very importent on hevy cars.

But many times you see peopel at track fading also. The reason is often, they breake to much. And often is not sure if should breake now or not and put the fot on breake pedal a tiny bit just in case. And just pushing it litel for a time before they acctually breake hard. This is not good and breakes dont ever get proper cooling.

Hi All,
although i am new to this board- since i registered today-- i'm for the last 1-2 years at this board and reading the topics here , cause you get nice Infos:0:
Now to the E60 M5.
The pics were taken this sunday at the ring, cause i was also there and i have almost the same pics at my Digi-Cam:D -I'll try to post dome pics here later
They had 3 "old" Ring-Taxis there driving around the course (Sabine was also there !!!) and they had the new M5.
In comparisson to the old one the new M5 looks more massive and agressive.
@ Erik- yeah i noticed it also-Michelin stickers but Conti Sportcontact2 tires ;)
Then again the brakes where way bigger than at the old M5's there.
The bad news are that they raised the price for one Lap with the ring taxi- to 160€:eye:
A nice thing at this sunday was also that there was a Camera-team which made a reportage about the New M5- so they made some launches with the M5 at the entrance to the Ring.
They made it several times, cause they wanted to catch also the Sound from the engine/exhaust--i must say not bad.
I also took small clips from that with my Digi-Cam but unfortunatly it's without sound :-(
Thats from me for know
Bye
