:0: nice how this time you can get both the functioning steering wheel and the paddle shifters (on this A4 interior).

i hope we get the 6.5" navigation plus here in the states and not the nav between the dials.

I agree. The people in the States keep getting screwed out of the really good stuff. I know i have been told not to whine about this, that everything is available for a price. But damn it, i want it from the factory! I can understand not giving somethings because of liability reasons, but a Nav screen? I just don't understand.

:w:

i say... Audi or AOA or whoever that decides, you can install my screen.. just send me the DVD of the states maps later.. when you make it if you havent.:hihi:

does the navigation plus read mp3's on burnt cd's?

Audihead
September 8th, 2004, 03:38
I think it can even play movies and stuff too. I thought there was a thread about that somewhere not sure now. But it can do all sorts of cool things.

RS4Ever
September 8th, 2004, 03:43
never mind.... yes it plays mp3's.. and $H!T they still have the navi betwwen the dials... please dont screw us.

The new Audi A4 provides the perfect infotainment experience.

Two different navigation systems, which both use GPS satellite navigation, help the driver find the fastest route from A to B. The basic navigation system uses spoken commands and pictograms in the central instrument cluster display to guide the driver. The corresponding controls are located in the centre console.

The new Audi radio-navigation system plus with DVD drive not only enables almost limitless navigation throughout Western Europe, it can also be used to play audio and MP3 CDs. Its operating principle follows the same clear logic as the Audi MMI, familiar from the A8 and A6. The 6.5-inch colour display shows the map and the visual route description, while the driver information system translates the corresponding directions into pictograms and adds information on distances and arrival time.

hey Audihead, it was probably a GREEEAAAT feeling to finally get your b6, ah? (dont answer... hehe)

how many miles do you have on it.. and is it leased? (supposing you sound like you are also looking to get teh B7)

Tip or Man?

and final question... are you enjoying it so far?:incar:

I love the Baby Beast. I have about 2,000 mi on it so far. Changed the exhaust & intake at 1,000 mi, right afterbreak in. Now it sounds like a Corvette, too cool. I am buying this one, just got out of a lease, never doing that again. Yes i will get the B7 if there are some major improvements over the B6. I have a Tippy trans now, not sure on the next one, we'll see.

another difference is that the ceiling is lighter (in color).

according to the S4's that i've seen here in the states.. the ceilings are all dark dark grey - black.

i'm not sure about europe specs though...

this link shows the new S4 to have a grey ceiling.. looks more illuminated i think.. makes it look bigger.

personally, i dont like to look too flashy, more of a sleeper fan.. i think i would prefer it to still have 2 exhaust pipes instead of 4.

At least with that kind of diameter...looks like the exhaust from a BMW 3-series, one om each side.. :eye:
I love the looks of four tailpipes, but it should be something like 4x3-4"...definitely not under 3". That's my opinion.. :360:

I have to say that the new B7 S4 is quite a bit more radical than i expected. I have needed a few days to get used to it. Which doesn't mean I dislike it, it's just looks quite different from what I expected. The application of the new grille is not yet fully convincing. It needs to look far more integral to the overall shape of the car. Perhaps it is too large or just too new.

The Nuvolari and Le Mans prototypes do show that the grille will evolve into a stunning shape. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

What has got me very excited is the rumour that a new A4 coupe utilising the bits from the revised S4 is also in the pipeline. This should look even more like the Novolari and be a real alternative to the M3.

Of course, the real test of the new A4 is how it drives. While it sounds as if the ride is dramatically better as well as having improved steering feel and directness, alas it is still a FWD chassis. Only a Quattro will do.

Tail end is nice work but I can't get over the BMW'ish / Asian face on this new S4. Too much Accord for my liking.

Bring on the Nuvolari! The only design that suited the new look!

"There is just one strange thing about the pictures.

Yes, but if you look carefully at the picture, you'll notice that the rear bumper/ fender actually has been moulded to accept the four tailpipes. I suspect that the production version of the new exhaust wasn't ready when this car was produced.

Anyway, these photos are great because they provide a much better idea of what the car will be like when we see it. Thanks for finding and posting.

taken from the pdf on autospies, just as its written everywhere else...

talks about the A4 exuast...

"A clearly crafted horizontal light-refracting edge gives the bumpers additional
shape. No less eye-catching at the rear end are the exhaust tailpipes which are
now 10 millimetres larger at 80 millimetres – a clear indication of just what the
new A4 models’ engines are capable of."

10mm larger.. i really must see this in person , they were only talking about the A4.. they didnt mention anything about the size of the 4 pipes in the S4.

:vhmmm:

what exactly do they mean in the sentence about weight reduction?... does the car have less weight? can someone please rephrase that sentence for me.

"the automatic transmission is designed to meet handling requirements such as weight reduction... what does that mean?

... also, nothing mentioned about an aluminum hood on the B7 (its probably there though).

below-also taken from the same pdf... (http://www.autospies.com/images/upl...4%20release.pdf)

"The S4 is available with a choice of 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed tiptronic
with dynamic shift program DSP and sport program. This automatic transmission
is designed specifically to meet demanding handling requirements: weight
reduction, rapid shifts and an optimised shifting strategy make sure that the
convenience of the automatic transmission is combined with the sports
performance specific to the S4."

I really hope it is the new FSI engine because if it is anything like the other FSI units coimng out of Volkswagen/ Audi then it will be just about the best V8 on the market. Probably irrelevant to this discussion, but the 4.2 FSI will in addition to delivering greater power also provide improved fuel consumption. I am hoping at least 28-29 mpg with normal use, 24 mpg on the autobahn and not less than 21 mpg when really going for it.

Fuel economy of current S4 - size of fuel tank = major source of irritation

would you say that you have a heavy foot and push it hard or you hit it here and there? (just wondering)

this FSI stuff is serious.
so maybe the 2007 S4 will have the FSI as when the RS4 will come out?

this green metalic is very nice... its more of a sleeper than the silver IMHO.

anyone currently own a green one?

i have seen one woman drive a stick green S4 silver interior (B6) around Buckhead, Atlanta, Georgia a few times... way in the past.
:brag: it looked very nice for that time of day (nearing nite). i wonder how it is in the sunny daylight. will have to check at the dealership some time... thats if they have it- even an a4.

well, as far as Audi appears to be concerned, the world in Europe ends in eastern border of Germany and Austria. Anything beyond that - black hole.

To add insult to an injury - there is no compatible map you can use as the NAV+ is using proprietary system.

And to make it even better - there are no imediate plans for additional maps for this system (that is from the NAVTECH). Writen inquiry to the factory generated no response ......

Both. Alot of stop and go traffic. I average @ 16MPG in the city and @ 20 to 22 on the freeway. The car is just very thirsty and heavy.
