this is either in North or South Carolina ....... but I did not look for any helmets ......

That is in Myrtle Beach South Carolina at the Sport Bike week which is held there every year. In the state of South Carolina one is not required to wear a helmet unless under a certain age. I have had the pleasure, or maybe not pleasure depending on how one looks at it, of being there during this joyeous occasion and it sucks.

I have greatly enjoyed my visits to SC, both the Low Country and the Hills (apologies to local sensibilities, but I've forgotten what the exact local terminology is), but several local peculiararities still puzzle me:
this motorbike helmet law,
the way liquor may only be sold by the bottle - want a whisky, buy a (small) bottle
Southern Hospitality is different, but greatly appreciated.
