Tuesday was a beautiful, sunny day in a otherwise very rainy Sweden. Really a perfect day to testdrive the all new Porsche 997 Carrera S.

I had the car for about 1½ hour and now I've come up with some sort of flu. My doctor say that it is an addiction, and that there is only one doctor that is known to cure it...Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche.. :deal: :thumb: :deal:

The figures:
3,8 litre boxersix
355 hp at 6600 rpm
400 Nm at 4600 rpm
0-100 km/h 4,8 s
0-160 km/h 11,0 s
80-120 km/h 6,1 s (5th gear) 6,2 s (4th gear)
293 km/h
Nürburgring 7m59s (with optional sport suspension)

A short "review":
I'm in love with this car !! :D

Since I've been waiting for this testdrive for quite some time now I had my expectations high, but as always a new Porsche 911 never lets you down. And the new 997 was no exception!

If I should point out two things that I really loved about the new 997 it would have to be the roadholding (is that the right word?) combined with the comfort of the ride, and the wonderfull new 3,8 litre engine and its massive torque at low revs.

Even the new interior was all "eye candy" to me. It felt like the car had got a great deal of Audifeeling when it comes to quality.

The car i drove was equiped with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB). A very pleasant acquaintance, but I'm sure that the original 330 mm four-piston Porsche/Brembo brakes will do just fine. Another option on the car was the new adaptive sports seats... Very nice!
More options on the car: Porsche Communication Management (PCM) (audio, communication, information) with Navigation module and BOSE Surround Sound System, Sports suspension package (20 mm lower), Sport exhaust system, Sport Chrono Package Plus, Leather interior package, Cruise control.....

McBurn,

Congrats on being able to test drive the new Porka so early, I never knew Porsche had started (mass) production of the 997 already.

The Black with the PCCB coloured calipers looks sensational.

Thanks for sharing your impressions and the pictures,.....so when are you going to put the deposit down? ;)

In Sweden, and as I understand it in the rest of Europe, Porsche had première on their new 997 on the 17th of July, last saturday.
About a week before that salesmen all over Europe where invited to drive the car in Portugal, on the Grand Prix Circuit (Monsanto Park?) in Lisbon.

Deposit?
:D
I've been told that I have to order the car in September/October if I want to be sure to get the car in April/May 2005...that is if I want to buy one..
You see, I haven't decided what to do.

1. Get a used 996 Carrera 2/4
2. Get a used 996 Turbo (this was what I had decided pre 997)
3. Get a new 997 (huge decrease in value?!)
4. Keep my money and buy a kick-ass RS4b6 as soon as it hits the market.

(a combination of above is possible, for instance 2 + 4) :360:

Number. 3 get's my vote, I don't know how there will be a big hit on depreciation? It's unlikely it'll happen as this car will be in a rather stable demand for sometime to come, it's when the 997 GTs and Turboes start being produced is when the 997S take a small depreciation hit, but depreciation is always going to be a factor with the Luxo/Sport line of cars.

You live once...If you want a car that wont depreciate go for a classic, classic motor. :incar:

I keep looking at those pics, unbelievable how good the black looks with those PCCB brakes!

As beautiful and enticing the 997 is, I'd say go for for the B6 RS4, and a 996tt too (since you mentioned it's a possibility). :0: After a few years just sell the 996tt and go for the 997TT :D.

That would be a fun combination! :applause:

McBurn4ever Was this on Porsche Center in Helsingborg?

If it was, I have been in the same Porsche... :p

By the way, I don't think that the new 997 will drop that much in price... As said before, this car probely got a stable demand.

Today I finaly found some time to sit down and go through the immense list of options for the 997.
I started to tick off the "must haves" and when that was done I summed it all up. The price? Almost twice the price of a S4b6...

That Dr. Porsche sure knows his business! :D

You are right! The car I drove was from Porsche Center in Helsingborg..
What did you think of the car, did you get the chance to drive it?
