Gran turismo, the newest version. The best race-simulator there is!the reason why play station 2 sells more than the Xbox. Actually the previous version is better, but this one has the RS4 and RS6!!!

The first Grand Turismo was released in US in May 1998. So you're right - around five years. :)

The M5 is in it and the Z8 also..

Also there's the old Cl55AMG but that car really sucks on almost every track!!! the M5 handles really well!!

There are two versions of GT3 Concept; Tokyo and 2002 Tokyo-Geneva meaning it includes new and concept cars from those respective auto shows. I believe the concept versions will not make it stateside, but you can always mod your PS2 to play games from other regions (i.e. NTSC: J or PAL: UK). I have the Tokyo-Geneva version from HK and its fairly cheap at ~US $20. Certainly very fun to throw the RS6 avant around the track. :addict:

The latest version -which I own so I confirm the RS4/RS6/TT ABT content- is called "Gran Turismo Concept : 2002 Tokyo-Geneva".

Here's the product at :
- Amazon UK
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000069HWT/qid=1046388138/br=3-2/br_lfncs_vg_h__2/202-9422466-8784640

- Playstation.com (Europe version)
http://uk.playstation.com/games/gamesinfo04_game.jhtml?localeTitleId=1037762&linktype=SSL

Enjoy, it's really a wonderful game for super cars and you get access to most right from start.

But it's nevertheless a LIMITED version compared to the main one, which doesn't offer the same Audi models but has a significantly stronger life expectancy due to the full competition/upgrades story :
"Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec"

I have bought the game today, and i've been playing for hours now

But you say that te RS4 is faster on every circiut. Strange, because I am playing with RS6 Limo and beating the RS4 times easlity...
I presume that you don't play with any driving assists :)

AudiTumbo
March 2nd, 2003, 16:12
To really test which one of the RS4 and RS6 is faster on the track, I decided to play one one circuit a long time.

The track was Midfield Raceway II.
The cars I tested were:

Audi RS4
Audi RS6 Limo
Jaguar S-Type-R
Mercedes SL55 AMG

First the RS4. After many laps I got a time that I was very satisfied with: 1.22.754

Then it was time for the Jaguar. I love the sound of that engine.
It keeps up with the RS4 on the straights but not on the surves. Best time: 1.24.275

Then the SL55Amg. Damn, this car is moving! I like this car a lot. The RS4 kept up with the SL in the turnes, but on the straights it was no doubt who was the faster one.
Best time: 1.20.652

Would the RS6 have a chance against the Mercedes? I doubted it at first, but after many laps shadowing the SL I came closer and closer and then I got a wonderful lap and beat tjhe SL by 0.009
:D , 1.20.643

This really was fun!
Try it by yourself and let's see what times you get :)

steve
March 2nd, 2003, 16:27
here are my Midfield times...

RS4 1.20.3
RS6 1.19.3

I think this pretty much the limit..
Probably somebody REALLLLLLY good coold get in to 1.18.....

I'll do it also for some other cool cars

cya

Steve

AudiTumbo
March 2nd, 2003, 16:28
You know I mean, the reverse Midfield? the "Midfield Raceway II"?

Are we talking about the same direction of the track?
Beacuse 1.19.3 is VERY good on the reverse Midfield with teh RS6.
What was your settings then?
The gear ratio, the tires ets...

AudiTumbo
March 2nd, 2003, 17:04
After driving over 30 laps with the RS6 on the "normal" Midfield Raceway, I got a quite good time. 1.18.734
But as you say, a perfect lap and you can get it down to 1.18. It is that damn last left-turn before the tunnel that is so difficult, because the RS6 is so heavy.

Anyway, try your best at the "reverse Midfield" and tell me what you got there.

steve
March 2nd, 2003, 17:10
Yes those were my midfield 1 times:D
Here are my midfield 2 times...

RS4 1.22.547
RS6 1.20.782

That's a fantistic time you got for midfield 1 !

keep on going !

AudiTumbo
March 2nd, 2003, 17:25
Yes, I am quite happy over that time :)
But I can do better I know :p
It's not impossible to go under 1.18..I feel it.
I have changed the settings to the following:

Ride Height: 100/100
Spring rate: 16.0/13.2
Damper: 4/4
Brake balance: 12/12
Gear ratio: 3.965/250.03 km/h (you don't need to go faster on that track, so you can lower the gear ratio and get better acceleration :D )
Tyres: Soft

And I am driving with the Anti Spinn Sysstem, and no steeing help. (the one in the middle after you have chosen the transmission before a race)

Now I gotta study...

steve
March 2nd, 2003, 17:52
Just did a 1.18.601 time on the midfield 1

Yep maybe it's possilbe to get under 1.18 but... It'll be damn hard !

my settings were:

ride height : 141/142
spring rate : 5.6 /4.7
damper : 6
brake balance : 21 /20
gear ratio : 318.67 ( That way you get faster to your top)
tyres : soft

Now i'm going to try to get a 1.18 time !

(damn that RS6 is fast...)

:addict:

AudiTumbo
March 2nd, 2003, 18:30
yeah!
17.997... :cool2:

it was a very good, lap, but still there is more to give. I did lap after lap under 18.5 all the time and then there comes this "one special lap" where everything goes right ;)

Now, I can go back to my books. :race:

Does anyone have a copy of GT concept that they would be willing to sell to me? Iv got GT3 a-spec and that game is great. One of my only problems with it was the very small amount of Audis in it. All this talk of RS6's and RS4's in GT is getting me excited! However, i talked to the video game store by me and they said that GT concept may not even be coming to the states so im starting to get nervous. So if anyone would be willing to part with theirs or show me a place to buy it and a mod chip i would be grateful. Thanks a lot. :incar: :race:

Steve and Tumbo,

Wanna try too but need confirmation about the settings :

- Midfield 1 (not reverse)
- RS4 Avant or RS6 Avant ?
- standard or pro level ?
- TCS on or off ?
- late car booster ?
- joypad or force feedback wheel ?
- any other thing you tweaked from "default" options.

Eric
PS : 42" inch Plasma screen and Surround Sound is ok, I hope
:-))

steve
March 4th, 2003, 13:48
Here we go:D :

-midfield 1
-RS6 Berline, RS4,.... (more cars can't hurt :-))
-free run
-tcs you may chose ( won't make that much of a difference)
-late car booster also ( i put it of)
-i use the normal controller
-that's about it...

and of course you can set your can like you want...

have fun !!!!!

Steve ( what a tv !!)
:D

AudiTumbo
March 4th, 2003, 14:25
Hi Taipan.

The RS6 Limo is faster then the Avant. (Less weight)
Then I think Steve pretty much explained what you choose.
I use the "TCS" in the middle (with the anti speed system), so I don't get much wheelspinn in the curves.

What I noticed about the settings is the lower the car is, the better grip, and higher "break balance" improoves the grip also.
And after some tests, I was right about the gear ratio. I drive with the gear ratio put on 250.09 km/k. The car will accelerate much faster and have shorter gear shifts. But check what the top speed at every course will be. It is not so smart to drive with that gear ratio on Tokyo, where you need at least 300km/h...

Any other questions, just ask!
(Right now I am driving on the Autumn Ring with the RS6. I beat biot the Corvette C5 and Aston Vanquish! The RS6 is so damn fast! (1.22.011)

:addict:

I've been driving some cars on autumn ring this afternoon...

Here are the times

RS6 sedan: 1.19.879 - could get better but already a damn good time

RS4 : 1.20.998 - impressive time compared to the other ones

Jag. S Type-R : 1.23.109 - a bit less impressive but still very fun to drive because of the automatic gearbox and the lovely engine

Jag XKR : 1.20.423 - Was very suprised about this! quite a difference with the S-type. Cool GT

AM Vanquish : 1.19.532 : Awesome car! The noise, my god! VERRRY nice car....

Greetings...

Steve

AudiTumbo
March 4th, 2003, 21:18
I did a superb 1.19.312 on the Autumn Ring with the RS6 Sedan.
The best way to get the fastest time with the RS6, is to drive the SL 55 Amg before. The SL is little faster then the RS6, but you it is very tight. Then just chase the SL with the RS6 and you get the best time :)

Nrn
March 4th, 2003, 21:21
Impressive to se that the RS6 is so close to the AM Vanquish!
The Vanquish is one of the most beatiful cars in the world if you ask me!

steve
March 5th, 2003, 11:22
I've been doing some compare-tests on Autumn Ring
I gave all cars some trackday settings ;-)

First cat. :

VW LUPO GTI : 1.28.641 - Was suprised how funny this drives
VW GOLF GTI : 1.28.203 - Bit boring car

Sec. cat. :

MINI COOPER-S : 1.25.569 - Quite nice but...
RENAULT CLIO Sport : 1.25.119 - ... This is better handling

Third cat. :

HONDA CIVIC TYPE-R : 1.22.668 - A lot more sensation than Ford
FORD FOCUS RS : 1.22.665 - Fast but... Doesn't give you a kick
HONDA INTEGRA TYPE-R : 1.21.756 - One of the best drivers cars...

And then also a family car test on Midfield:
of course not setted ( are family cars remember ;-))

LEXUS IS 300 : 1.32.0 / 0.100=7.2/60-120 4'=11.2/0-160-0=22.6
NISSAN PRIM. : 1.30.1/ 0-100=7.9/ 60-120 4'=10.8/0-160-0=21.6
MAZDA 6 : 1.31.9/0-100=8.0/60-120 4'=13.5/0-160-0=23.6

BHP: LEXUS: 216 PRIMERA; 201 MAZDA;175 !

Conclusion: looking at the acceleration times you could think that the mazda wouldn't stand a chance, also because of it's lower bhp.

The best ?= I think its the Nissan.

That's it :-)

Steve

AudiTumbo
March 6th, 2003, 01:16
To really find out which of the gear ratios is best for a track I tried several gear ratios for the RS6 Sedan.
The other settings were:
*ASM - no, TCS - yes
*Ride height: 100/100
*Spring rate: 16.3/13.0
*Damper: 6/6
*Break balance: 20/20
*Tires: Soft

Gear ratio : 0-100km/h 0-150km/h 0-180km/h

3.075 (322,40 km/h) 4.060 sek 8.440 12.400
3.475 (285.29 km/h) 3.940 sek 8.320 12.220
3.956 (250.09 km/h) 4.200 sek 8.580 12.340
3.705 (267.58 km/h) 3.940 sek 8.540 12.220
2.745 (361.16 km/h) 4.140 sek 8.620 12.320
3.295 (300.88 km/h) 3.980 sek 8.320 12.380

So the best Gear Ratio seems to be around 3.475/285.29 km/h.
Then I testes sme other cars with the closest I got to get the same settings as the RS6 had:

RS6 Avant 3.940 8.380 12.360
RS4 4.420 9.720 14.100
SL 55 AMG 3.900 7.680 10.940
RUF RGT 3.580 7.640 11.060
Corvette Z06 4.680 8.960 12.340
S-Type R 5.060 9.780 14.260
Skyline GT-R 4.860 10.160

So, as it comes to the original cars on this game, the SL55AMG and RUG GTR are extremely fast, but the RS6 Sedan stays there too, even more on a whole track.

But, what I noticed that when I took "Single Race/Ace (You have to win all the races in Proffesional, to compete in "Ace") and then took the S-Type R on the Midfield, guess who one one my opponents was? Well, the AUDI S4!!
Also I noticed some other cars like CL55 Amg, which I don't have. I wonder where you can win them, because I only am missing 4 cars in the "Game status" behind the shadows, and I am sure that none of them is an S4. Maybe you'll get some bonus cars after winning all the races in "Ace"....? Who know... :)Let's play!

steve
March 6th, 2003, 09:04

Love the pic of VW Beeatel on the ring. These games of Nurburgring relly are giving a hint what this mean 20km track are about. King of all tracks in the world, nothing else in the world is even close to give the thrill the Ring gives. For those of you that not been there fore reall I advice to go and feel fore youre selvs.

Im not into games my selv, but now its time for me to buy I guess!

Steve,

Thanks for all the pics. It's exciting to see how much effort went in to the games accuracy!(even the graffiti is precise!)

8:29,

Spot on! There is nothing at all that comes close to the ring! I've only been on 5 different tracks but none of them can even think about giving you the excitment of the Nordschleife! I don't have a lot of experience there ( 13 total laps=@ 2 hours:D ) but it is fantastic:bow: This game is going to make it even harder for me to wait till next spring to go again:incar:

Yep.. all been there know its like nothing else.

We are a buch of guys planing to go togheter to the ring spring 2005. We may do the scuderia hanset or just free laping.

Even from Sweden its a long trip to get there I think 1600km from Stockholm. Fun if some frome here could join as well!

From USA I guess way longer than 1600km one way :D

I could relly recomend if in germany on bussines.....hit the ring whit the avrege SIXT rental car. No matter what car you drive at ring its exiting and funny :MTM:

I'll be there early June. I've used the rental approach. Good times, good times:D

GT4 will have to hold me over till then.

Lucky you, i know you can rent a Lamborgina Gallardo for 3 days:D

Deposit of 6000eur. The 3 days rent cost will set you back 1700eur:D

Are you passing by on bussines/holliday or is it just for the ring?

Ben, do you have more accurate date outside of spring? I'm in Wiesbaden area quite a bit and perhaps we coudl manage to swing over to the ring for a day when you guys are there .... it is only about 150 km - a short flight ...

I guess you addresed this question to Ben. As you quoted my post I hope I can aswer on it anyway as well as Ben. As Ben say in above post early June. Can you Ben go in April? or can We go in june?

We often go in easter time as a kick in. The reason is we have a long way from Sweden and its onley in this spring time and in September they have open in 3-4 days in a row all houers. Sure its much peopel at this time, but we up early so its ok. And its a nice time this time packed whit nice cars.
Any other time is maybe 1 or if lucky 2 days in a row open. Often its like open halvf a day and next closed to open the next day for 2 houers on afternon. And its like this most the season. Well if you live close its ok.

It would truley be nice to meet the RS6.COMers over loads of  at a legend track like Green Hell.

When we was down april 2004 we tried to get to meat more RS6 peopel, no luck that time.......Better luck this time in 2005? Or what do you all say? It must be more than me and Ben and George and Erik on this forum that like the brethtaking RING?

Early June, but I don't have a more accurate date at this point. I'll know more probably January. And is Wiesbaden close to Baden Baden? If so, beautiful scenery you have there.

I agree that it would be great to meet some of you guys. Especially at The Ring! I just know that I won't be out there earlier than first week or so of June. But if we can meet up that sweet! And I'll be using an Audi rental car more than likely for Ring purposes unless you know how much a 911 TT will run a day to rent?

That, I'm not sure. I know Infineon (Sears Point) will be added, but I don't know if any other American tracks will be added.

Baden Baden is about 150 or so km south of Wiesbaden, little bit west of Stuttgart. Scenery is beautifull in most of the places in that area.... and, not to forget, plenty of beer ......

I just know that I won't be out there earlier than first week or so of June.

I can't make it first 2 weeks in June in any case as I have all kids/grandkinds visiting in Europe and it will ba PITA anyway - just a thought of leaving to the Ring during that period almost sounds like filling divorce papers .... ha ha :vgrumpy:

we will see
