I got a call from the local Land Rover Dealer Today wanting to know if I wanted to buy or knew anyone who wanted a 99,000 dollar Maserati that he just got in on trade. He is selling it for a cool 74,000 dollars. It has 1800 miles on it. I am still thinking abouut it. If it is not gone tomorrow he will sale it to a wholesaler. I may start a Wholesale car business now Klint...:hihi:

Stuart,

It may just work as an alternative form of investment, maybe as a one off? ;)

I'm not sure how desireable the 4200GT is in the states and I'm unsure about the price due to the exchange rate differences, but if it's under book value it's been offered to you at, I'd take it due to the fact that the spec is rather impressive from the pics supplied. (SatNav, CambioCorsa gearbox, does it have the flywire? suspension?) keep it for 200 miles (since 2k miles is a nice number) then sell it on, by now the biggest depreciation hit has occured by the time you buy it, that's if you decide to. :)

Such ashame Maserati dropped those gorgeous boomarang rear LED lights in favour of those, Vauxhall styled ones... Something to do with the boomerang lights being disliked by the American market. :w:

It does have the Skyhook Suspension. I want to buy it so bad but at this point I would have to sale the RS6 to do it. I know I have had trouble with it but I still love it.

Its a very nice car

BUT

there is a redesign in the works.

Maserati must have been having an off day, before launching the car in the US they showed it to a 'Focus' group. Pretty nuts, you might think, but they changed the car based on the feed back!

Now if this was Ford or GM, fine, almost all their cars are examples of how not to make cars look and they smell like the arm pit of a cheap plastic doll.

But an Italian car manufacturer listening to a focus group - that is not why we buy their beautiful sports cars. We don't want them to look and sound and smell like all the other shitty boxs on the road, we want Italian grace and flair and pizzazz. These factors are not in great evidence at a focus group - have you noticed the haircuts, the perma-press fabrics, the laptop bag briefcases?

Giving the customer what the customer wants does not mean letting them screw up the design your experts, who actually know something about design, have spent months and years working on! particularly if what you are selling is a sports car bearing one of the most evocative brands in the world. The horrid rear lights selected by the focus group look like anything slapped on the back of Detroit's shoddiest.

So, really lovely car, but there is still another depreciation hit to come, when the facelift model arrives. In the meantime, go and try the Quattroporte, built with Audi engineering and technology.

On the upside, its fun and brio and style, and fun. It is not Germanic, even if Munich's schicki-mickerei have taken it to their hearts - if there is a gossip columnist pointing her pencil at you, it is not cool to drive a German car in the country's only fashionable city.

People who drive Italian sports cars are much more interesting, always late with grease under their fingernails, but interesting.

If this is the kind of car that does interest you, check out the new Aston Martin.......

Not sure if the price is right. At least not for me, since I would go to Germany and buy one for much less.
Perhaps not the same miles, condition etc.

in Germany you can buy the 3200gt 2000/2001 models with 30000-60000km from 28000-38000eur.

The spec is rather impressive.

Why not buy it for the missus and get rid of the ML55? ;)

I did not think of that...
