I have the second check engine light come on in three days. I brought the car in on Monday and they fixed it they said it was a vapor leak and asked if I had not screwed on my gas cap. I had filled the car up on Sunday night and the gas cap was put on tight. It came on again on Wednesday morning and I just filled the car up today. So who knows...

My light came on sometimes in my A6 2.7T.

It was because of bad quality gasoline.

When re-fueled it went back to normal.

No difference in driving what so ever.

The last tank was Shell and that is what I try to put in it. Today I used a different gas. We will see...
Thanks

The same happened to me. They replaced the gas cap and it has been fine since. Knock on wood.

I just don't understand why the gas cap not being tight enough would cause a CEL. Does that make any sense?
You see a CEL and you get paranoid. Imagine that it turns out to be on gas cap that is not tight enough or some other reason also with concerns to gas cap. It would drive me crazy!!!

Let's hope it's nothing serious. Get yourself a Hex-USB Vag tool. Works great.

Mine was coming on constantly and eventually they replaced the ECU.

No problems since.

Stu,

Did you ever get resolution on this?

I'm getting the same problem starting last Wednesday after service. My Audi dealer claims it happens sometimes when you drive the car for a very short distance - that there is still unburned gas in the fuel lines...

It is in there now and has been there all week and probably through the weekend. I just talked to them on the phone and they said that they reset it again when I go in I am going to find out if that is all they did before I leave with it. So to answer your question Finnus it is in the process of getting fixed now.

I had the same issue with my 4.2. I fortunately have VIA-COM so checked my self.

It ended up being a twisted gasket on the gas cap.

Check it closely, even though it is screw on tight, the gasket may not be seating.

It sounded like BS to me, too. However, yesterday morning, after I drove 30 seconds to breakfast, the light went on again ...

I'll check the gas cap.

The actual output from the VIA-Com was interesting though.

The first time it said it was a small leak.

The second time it said it was a large leak.

That is when I looked into it more carefully and found the twisted gasket.

Thankfully it was a simple problem.

I dread ever having to have my beast go in for more than routine service!

By the way when you go for service, tell them you are interested in another car for your significant other, so you can get a better loaner car LOLOL

My check engine light came on as well......oh wait my engine is out of the car and on an engine stand:D :D :hahahehe:

Actually mine came on before I took the car in for turbos and was found to be valve of some sort in the system...will have to look on repair invoice to get exact name.
