View Full Version : Is the M5 supposed to rust?

It sure isn't but ours is....

It's four years old, completed just under 12,000miles and has been regularly waxed & washed by myself truly and has had no body work repair required on the spot that's starting to rust.

The rust dot is just on the boot lid about an inch into the centre from the ridge.

Can anyone confirm that rust spreads? I vaguely believe in this, but need it to be confirmed.

Rust on a 4 year old M5 isn't normal

I'd contact BMW or your BMW Dealer...
Most of the manufacturers give 6-12 years rustguarantee these days, so maybe....

Normally BMW should help you with this unacceptable rust.

greetings,

Steve

for me it just looks like Flight rust which comes by the time when the car is not polished often.

Well could also be a damage from a stone a car infront of you hurled up.

Donīt think your car really rusts.. would be really really unnormal.. never heard of rust on new BMW and there are quite a lot in germany...

Oh, the drawback of living on an island in the middle of salty water...

Thanks for the advice gentlemen,

Looks the M5 falls under the criteria that the bodywork gurantee requires to claim, I'll be harassing the dealership in due course about it. :deal:
