I heard it today while driving my beast back from the dealer (seems to run good BTW). Channel 150 -- about 4 minutes of LA traffic & weather, followed by same for NYC, then back to LA etc. Think I read somewhere that Sirius (satellite radio) eventually plans to serve 21 larger markets with traffic & weather. Don't know if XM plans to do something similar.

As an aside, I feel sorry for the local radio station personnel who eventually may lose jobs over this. I worked in radio news for 17 years & watched its decline from the inside, as news requirements were dropped in 1980 & consultants began saying news is an interruption, not a complement, for most music listeners ("And so why are you keeping news people on the payroll, Mr. Station Manager?"). Probably true, but those two things -- deregulation and consultants -- caused the number of radio news practitioners in the US to drop from around 10,000 in 1980, when I started, to about 5,000 in 1997, when I left to assume family responsibilities. And now this -- big-time competition for the one thing they do better than any other medium.

I guess it probably doesn't matter to the average listener where their info comes from, tho -- as long as it's timely, accurate, etc. Plus I can be grateful I was able to leave the business on my terms, rather than depend on it for a living & then get laid off with poor prospects for finding another job.

(PS to Erik & other mods: Move this to another forum if you like. I was thinking about Off Topic but this is about car radios & a feature available on the RS6, so thought I'd try here first.)

Sirius has it and so does Xm.
Here are the respective sites that will show the cities that will be available.
XM Traffic (http://www.xmradio.com/traffic/)
Sirius Traffic (http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/CachedPage&c=FlexContent&cid=1077744925601)
