Why yes it does! Did you guys notice that he has been moved to a managing position instead of actual design. I have read this in a couple of Car rags lately. I'm so happy, maybe this crap will stop comming out of Munich. :wo:

That is going to be one incredible car when it comes out, but it still looks like a Pontiac from the front.

All I can say is that it looks better then the 530 and the 545 but I will have to see it in person to make a final judgment.

Thanks Erik for posting the pics. Although I do not doubt it will be a great car, that thing is just ugly. It looks like a Pontiac Grand Prix in the front, except a lot worse, and like some sort of Hyundai in the back, except far worse. Somehow, at least to me, all those oddball shapes that BMW (with the new 5 series and the Z4) seems to think are chic and stylist: (a) aren't; and (b) just look so out of place on a high priced German car.

thanks for being serious and tolerating different tastes... luckily not everybody has your opinion...

I wouldn't go as far as Benman did in his comment, but I think it looks like a Z4 in the front, and I'm not very attracted to the Z4.

IMO: From the front, it sure looks butt ugly! That little grill looks pathetic. And what's with those stylized air intakes? I'd rather see something where design just follows function.

Audi's going with the big fly-catcher grill, BMW with the wimpy little grill. What are the German designers thinking??? :puke: If they averaged the two out, they would be OK.

Just another reason to appreciate our Beasts.

I'm sure new M5 is going to be an awesome performer, upping the ante for Audi & Merc. I look forward to the stats and the repsonses (from Audi & Merc). Let the HP/performance wars continue!

I got suspicions that the "side grills" are actually a model insignia. ;)

I love it!

I actually loved the M5 before it was uncovered as a concept car.

The future's bright, the future's ///M5. :wo:

I quite like it I must say... but still it isn't my kind of prefered styling. No pure class, no real "that's it" feeling

but still....it looks good

Steve

I don't like the car either although understand that it will kick ass big style. It is just not M car enough and does look a bit like Z4 which I can not stand. All bmw new cars have that something in their design that is just :trash:

Hey steve , you sayd it all!!

Thats actualy the feeling I have with the new 5... cant say "thats it" like in a M3 or a E39 and E34 M5 , but I can still like it very much! :race:

But still the new BMW era is not what it should be styling wise...

indeed, whenever it goes about those older BMW's I immediatly think "aahh those were BMW's". The new ones simply don't touch me

When I first saw pictures of the new 5 series I immediatly thought = HONDA ACCORD. Similar at a first glance.

The head lights don't do it for me. I prefer the old fashion round lights which were a trademark of BMW for years. I know the plastic covers give better aerodynamics (if measurable at normal speeds) and protect the bulbs somewhat, the look is too Honda/Toyota/Hundae for me.

I would like to sit in one though. The current 5 series has significanly less interior space than the A6/RS 6 line. And the interior of the A6/RS 6line is much nicer than the 5 series cars (IMO).

Now, an M6 convertible, that would be nice...even with the headlights.

Mike

Waiting list for M6 - YEARS...

Surprisingly, I like it! Now if they integrate BMW's X-Drive AWD system as an option, then I might consider it. However, getting 500 HP to the tarmac and getting good traction with just two wheels is a difficult proposition. Heck, I used to rip out a lot in my E39 540i. Either I'm simply getting used to the Bangle-butt over time, or the rear of the M5 doesn't seem as ugly as the others...

I agree. However, sitting in the rear seats is something else, at least in the 5 Series overall. The seating position is very low and, because of the restricted visibility in such a position, I felt a bit claustrophobic.

Not that back seat visibility is a reason to buy or not buy the M5. This is just a recollection from my showroom observations.

Well, itisme, it seems you are the one being intolerant, not I. I stated only that I thought the M5 was ugly and why. You, no doubt being true to your nature, condemned me for doing so. You did so when you stated how fortunate it was others did not share my opinion.

It never ceases to amaze me how the truly intolerant can always spot it in others, but never themselves.

BTW, you would do well not to presume to speak for others on the thread, many of whom seem to agree that the M5 is stylistically unattractive.
