well I put a few nasty dings in mine, but when I looked up dent repair vs what used S6/RS6 panels go for, it seems a swap would be more economical.
or is it a royal pain in the ass to swap out the panel? some advice + a lead on the part would be greatly appreciated!

Fairly easily replaced. Be sure to get late model if you go for S6. Difference is in the turn signal cut-out: early (small) (https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/xEUAAOSw~OVWuO0i/s-l1600.jpg) vs late (RS6) (https://d.allegroimg.com/s400/033d9b/f7ba1e0d4d3c82282bc6dd65ed4d).

Try Shokan, although the website is down right now...you could get any color and get a good paint match for around $300 I would say. Did my bumper years ago, fixed some small damage and perfect paint match for $500.

alternatively, I could get contrasting panels, then redo a bumper and a door in raw primer.

Repair shop says they can't fix the dent - something about the dent being uneven and it being aluminum and all.
Is Avus Silver an unobtanium paint shade? Because I'm thinking, pick up a replacement panel and have it painted, then installed.

Not sure why they couldn't match it. Dave? My Mugello Blue bumper respray matches 100%...

Now this is I know...I bet a good shop can get close, if they use the factory paint specs. I know that varies some...it's just silver anyhow...

Yep just silver
every Avus car I've owned has looked like a different color, 3 Diamont variants none of which match any car I have. 2 Glasurit variants again neither match any of my cars.
I have original paint on my cars
