Steering column 2004 RS6

I have a clicking noise coming from the steering column,its
gradually got worse and only at slow speeds when parking or
backing out the garage.
No leaks - was told a new steering column is $2,900 Cdn.
Anyone had this problem and is this price correct?

Steering column and steering rack is two different things.
Price sounds about right for a brand new steering rack from a dealer.
I have the same exact thing that I'm willing to let go for $800.

Price sound about right for a brand new Audi part, but I'd try to find the exact problem and see if it's fixable first. Maybe a bad clock spring or a ujoint in the column. Also, you should be able to find a used column a lot cheaper. Are you taking it to the dealership? If so, I suggest finding a good independent shop to have a look first.
