I've read about some different solutions from modifying the existing tiptronic surround to wrapping one from a manual C5 to match. Would like to hear from anyone willing to share their solution. Pics appreciated as well.

thanks,
Andrew

I am pretty sure that the carbon fiber and the wood trim is all RS6 and not interchangeable with any other surrounds that were offered on B6 cars.

this requires cutting of the RS6 surround. I've used the A6 6MT surrounds for a template and the aluminum backing plates on the RS6 surrounds already have the correct screw holes for the larger opening predrilled. The screws for attaching the underside bits from the 6MT surround self tap into the holes.

I like the use the chrome bezels for the shift boot that were specific ot some models. I'm working from memory here, so I don't exactly know which ones had it. I think they were allroad specific?

You can pick up matching matching alcantara shift boots on the aftermarket with some searching.

Same for air leather shift knobs that match the steering wheel leather.

I still have my factory one if you want a spare one to practice on...reasonable offer and I'll ship it...

I had a spare one and covered it in carbon fiber sticky tape...looked OK...not great, but OK...

I'm getting ready for that step myself. I have the RS6+ Carbon fiber with the blue thread in the weave and would definitely like to keep it so I may have to do the same route of modification.

Modifying the tiptronic shift surround isnt all that hard. Its best if you have the boot snap ring and put it on the back and color in the back that needs to be cut off with a sharpie. Then with a dremel cut off wheel & flapper make the mods necessary.

Here it is in progress:

Which cutoff wheel and flapper did you use? Do you need the chrome ring to hide the edges, or does it come out clean enough to use without the chrome ring?
