View Full Version : Group buy for Kohlenstoff front spoiler

LaserSVT
January 22nd, 2016, 18:02
Okay, a few here have asked me about a group buy with the Kolenstoff front spoiler. I contacted the US distributor and he said if we order 5 or more we can get a group buy on them.
Normal prices are:
$1000 Carbon Fiber
$675 FRP Unpainted
$900 FRP painted

If we do a group buy the prices are:
Carbon- $900 shipped in the lower 48
FRP Unpainted:$545 shipped in the lower 48
FRP Painted: $770 shipped in the lower 48

They take 4-6 weeks and come from Japan. They seem to be of high quality when I talked to a couple people that have them. I know Mr Hall had one but I don't think he liked it.

Here is the spoiler I am talking about:

Recommend you inquire further about the shipping logistics as the few members on here that have one of these were subjected to additional costs that weren't known up front that I am of the understanding increased the final landed costs you reference.

I have confirmed with the distributor that is the price to your door.

How does it fit to the front bumper? In the pictures at the side of the bumper it looks almost if you have to cut the bottom of the bumper for it to mate too?

Interested about fit also; glue or bolts, removable?

Bill, you getting painted? Can they do Mugello Blue? How many HP will this add?...kidding.

Thanks! I'm on the fence...

No cutting required at all. It uses that 3M bonding tape but I imagine I will reinforce with some clips in the bottom. If you have the fog light deletes you do have to trim the spoiler (not the car, the new part) a couple inches where it goes near the fog lamps. Yes I am gonna go with painted for mine and they can do Mugello. He said they can do any OEM Audi color.

I had no problems with mine.

Just beware if you choose carbon.

Low clearance and damage if you hit anything

And the only thing that worries me about that is my driveway. I need to hire some guys to level the dang thing out. Everyplace elde i drive I keep in mind where the steep crub entrances are and just dont go there in the Audi. LOL
But I would hate to spend a G and then hit a driveway wrong and snap that damn thing.

When I had 905355, I REALLY wanted one of these and was skimming to purchase one...

To me, it makes the front of the clip look as it should, not like the car is sticking out its chin.

I have one. It slips on very tight and may scratch your paint around the sides over time. Has 2 bolts per side to lock on. Makes the car look much more aggressive in a tasteful way IMO.

Did you remove your lower center metal trim, or dipped? Looks nice all black on the lower.

i'd contemplate getting a second one for the second ride here, but with the CAN/USD exchange rates currently likely going to end up listing the additional beast here in the next month or so and wean myself down to just one. Landed cost for a $900USD item to a Canadian destination will end up being in excess of $1,500.00 by the time you do currency exchange, add duty, tax, and finally brokerage.

LOL! Mine will be painted. We have two people that want them in the UK as well but the shipping thing is the issue. In order to do that he said I need 3 of the same kind going to the UK (two want CF) and can have 3 mix and match for USA. So we are almost there! :)

Hey folks. That's a good deal, it is due to the fall of he yen against the dollar when we did our group buy a few years ago, plus it sounds like they got a U.S. distributor. When I did this, all of them came in a large crate that I had to source from a customs broker in New Jersey. The unexpected costs were the brokerage and customs fees. If they now have a US distributor the issue should be solved. I stashed away a couple of these. Hehehe.

Good summary. As further clarification, there will ALWAYS be a brokerage and customs charge to import to the US - even if they have a local distributor, you will see that as a cost in the product. Also, references to "the dollar" are a US dollar. Members who live in Canada will be affeccted at a 35% rate to account for the CDN dollar value on the world market.

I do wonder, with the specific intake cooling ducts on the belly pan, and the stock bumper tilting up to allow air under; how much will this spoiler reduce quality cooling airflow?

Let me add to that...this is the closest shot I've seen of one; look at how horrible the fit is around the corner by the wheel, not sure I could tolerate that. Looks to fit nice in the middle, maybe this just needs more tape or glue:vhmmm:

Folks,

there is no tape required for fitting these. They use one of the existing mounting screws in the wheel well, and they essentially snap fit. The fit is impeccable if not too tight. I actually use a layer of film to go between the paint and the spoiler.

They really bring the front end of these cars into this decade...

Yeah that is actually my car at G2's shop. Like Stephencl said it snaps on extremely tight and bolts on inside the wheel well. When I installed it I felt like I was going to snap the carbon fiber because of the tight fit and need to have it flex around the car. I'm curious where you found that picture!

I thought so, hope it gets fixed up soon! Pic was on FB, if I was still in town I would have snapped it myself, great looking car:) So basically you didn't bolt it tight on the sides due to worry of it cracking? Guessing others have got it to fit good, that spot just always stood out to me even when bolted up clean.

February 9th, 2016, 22:14
The lip honestly does not even need the bolts at the wheel well since it fits tightly and mine are pretty loose as is. Not sure if tightening the bolts would eliminate that gap; I just didn't want it too tight because my ride height is lower than stock and the lip has some give to it that I prefer.

Unfortunately the car might be down in Eugene a few more weeks as I'm currently trying to source a 'new' used engine.

Folks,

I have been working with the vendor on this group buy. Here is the update:

carbon spoiler -- list price ¥98,000 group buy ¥78,400.
RFP -- list price ¥68,000 group buy ¥54,400
Shipping to your doorstep direct from vendor to any address in North America ¥38,000
Shipping to Australia ¥35,000

This is a 20% discount, there is no uplift from me, and there is no chance of shipping to the US and then splitting up.

There is a 6-8 week lead time, and the minimum buy is 8 units.

It works out to roughly $1100 for a carbon lip shipped.

I wish the pricing was lower, but without a North American distributor willing to do the re-pack and ship, this is as good as I can make it.

If any that have PM'd me want out with this new info, let me know...
