View Full Version : Sportec Exhaust Installation

Here are some photos from my Sportec exhaust installation a few days ago. Sorry, the underside of the car was a little dirty from last week’s snow. As you might expect from a high end tuner, the fit and finish is superb. The sound is more controlled than the OEM sound enhancing system and is actually tamer at higher revs. I'll try and record a sound file soon. Enjoy!

Cheers,
James

I was torn between twin tips and the ovals. The twins do add a very aggressive look though. Either looks good on the RS6!

Enjoyed the pix...thanks!

Those "crimps" in the OEM pipes....do you have any idea of they were always like that or did they get bent somehow?

Nice pics & looks great! I like the quad look. Do you get a small horsepower gain? Are you putting a chip in as well?

All RS6 stock exhausts have the crimped/bent portion of the pipe.
This has been confirmed by the folks at SpeedTechnik, and one of their reasons for upgrading the exhaust system after chippin' the beast.

Exhaust looks good. I wish they had played with it a bit more though. Like fitting for example. Maybe the tips should be a bit higher and more inwards. This would allow them to be closer to bumper, and the tips would not stick out as much.
Overall though, looks like a great exhaust system. Maybe some more pix would invalidate my points.

More pix, more pix, more pix!!!
Congrats.

:hmm: Interesting....wonder why they would do something like that?

Interesting find with the squashed factory system.

Not too keen on the quad outlets though, but that's personal preferences, the twin ovals gets my thumbs up. :0:

Highrustler,

Once the exhaust is run in, see if you can go about getting that sound file you've mentioned. :p

According to Sportec, the performance gain is 10-15 hp.

Looks very good.....the crimps in the sound enhancing exhaust is a bit strange to me...since my understanding is that the sound enhancing exhaust is largely hand made by quattro Gmbh...at least that is what I have read.

Sound clip when you get a free moment please:D :D

Slide under your car and you will see the crimps!

Not exactly sure about our RS6 cases, but crimps are typically made for clearance issues or for increased backpressure (torque tuning). The Sportec looks like the driver side muffler is tilted down a bit more than the other - perhaps for clearance as well?

My $0.02.

Exhaust looks GREAT though, although I also think that it could use a bit of adjustment.

Looks cool!!!! Everyone's going to quads now. Like to see some shots with the car on the ground at a good angle and distance. Just ordered a Milltek system for my S4, can't stand factory exhausts. They just plain suck. Great choice.

Looks nice. The new Sportec exhuast looks so much better than that stock piece of crap. Seems like only Porsche can get the exhuast correct!
Is there a new ECU coming soon?????

Pretty much all Audi exhausts have those crimps. It's funny that you mention Porsche since they offer factory sport exhausts for their own cars. So what other good quad tip options are out there? There is the exhaust from APR that just came out, but I don't care much for it since it's only a 2.5 inch. I know Abt-sportsline must have one as well as MTM and a plethora of other tuners and/or exhaust makers.

Just another thing, Digit Power offers an exhaust as well. There is another company that tunes Audis that was abbreviated to Spez. Performance. Don't know the full name so couldn't get any info.

the stock exhaust for the 2004 s4 has the same type of crimping in it. must be some sort of factory fitment issue. whatever it is, it just made me order a milltek setup to resolve the issue. don't know why a factory exhaust would be restricted like that:s4addict:

Too many choices here, it's killing me. Everyone is giving me opinions and it isn't helping ;-)

I definetly did come to one conclusion. Dual tips I want and the bigger the dual tips the better. As I want a racing version I think that narrows my search. (and I am looking for a Deep throaty tone adn loud ;-)

Can we do a poll here?

Milltek (maybe not because no dual tips)
Eisenmann
Sportec
MTM
ABT

thanks everyone

Millteks' have a nice deep & loud sound to them. I have the system from the DP's back on my B6 S4, sounds fantastic. Same motor, just no turbos.
