Well thanks, I like to think I have more then just a pulse and ssn. I just didn't think it was worth the move. I worked for a few years at sunset audi, then just relized I much prefer wrenching on my spare time over making money at it. I quit and never looked back.

No sweat man, Sunset was/is the same way. The tech turnover rate is bad...plus they didn't want to pay the guys who really knew what they were doing an appropriate wage. Just wasn't worth it anymore.

I have RS6 side skirts, door caps, rear bumper, and rear spoiler that will be going to paint within the next month or so. Right now I'm just waiting on myself to finish this clients RS6 so I can free up the engine table and yank mine out. Couple more small things to iron out with the swap and once I get it all in line the transplant will begin.

So to add some details to this thread

What were some of the changes needed to swap instrument cluster and steering wheel?

Did you relocate the battery to the rear? How did you run the cables?

Rear subframe? Did you swap the RS6 subframe with diff?

What about fuel tank and pumps?

What about the coolant after run pump and wires. Did you have to run new wires?

I have feelers out for a S6 and could be doing this soon. Must need head examined.

Nothing needed to swap cluster and wheel, except immobilizer stuff. Plug and play on my car (I had sport steering wheel with shifters in S6)

Battery will be in the front so as to not take up any room in the trunk. Either where the SAI pump was, or next to coolant tank

RS6 avants used the same aluminum rear subframe as the the RS6 so I left it rather than swap with the steel sedan one. Swapping RS6 rear diff and center driveshaft over.

Using stock S6 tank with AEM in tank pump. Swapping over all the RS6 larger lines though.

After run pump wiring is part of the engine harness. The after run coolant valve located at the bottom of the radiator is getting deleted.

It's actually a lot easier than you would expect. Just time consuming.

I deleted my SAI some time ago and I feel confident in saying I certainly wouldn't be able to get a battery in to the front passenger area. There is some room in the cowling area, but it requires a full revisit of the air cabin filter, coolant tank, brake booster and ECU locations IMO. Anyway, pics will show all and look forward to seeing those ones.

Yep on the dash pin to convert.

I was thinking about the rear hubs...may be needed for caliper mounting

You have to use the RS6 rear hubs for the brake swap. God knows why they chose to use the stupid ones that are on the S6. RS6 and Allroad are the same.

I wish I had the time to figure out how to adapt the RS6 rear calipers and rotors to the S6 carriers. It's about 4.25 lbs unsprung weight savings per side with the aluminum carriers.

I won't have to diet as much, too.

I'm sure it can be done, but it won't be easy. You'll have to fab a new caliper carrier. The S6 uses a goofy caliper carrier. Then there's the whole dust shield being sandwiched between the bearing and the bearing carrier.

Since I don't see the subframe on the engine stand, do you lift the engine place and then hang it from the unibody to get the subframe in place?

canyon
January 7th, 2016, 23:31
I bolted the subframe back into the car so I can push it in and out of the shop and not clog up one of my bays for work. Plus I need to push it over to detail and pressure wash the engine bay.

Hood, fenders, and steering knuckles are all the same on the S6. Larger fuel lines are being swapped from the sedan to the avant. Running the S6 fuel tank with single in tank pump with larger wiring to support it.

I hope you've done your research on this. Personally I would not risk it since there is a reason why these get severed all the time. I'm guessing it's more from movement during operation (along with the stock engine mounts) than not supporting the engine during service, etc.

I'm interested in any feedback once you are up and running.

2 steps forward, 1 step back. Got her all ready today, filled the coolant and sure as shit there's a pin hole leak in the flipping radiator. This is awesome.

I'm really missing my AMD tuned RS6 6MT avant. My only regret was that it was not white like yours.

I like the in video where you can see the car slowly start to squat. Looks like slo-mo. . .

So what's next? Will AMD be modifying the TCU to allow you to up the HP/TQ?

I still can't believe you sold yours. Yes, we're getting some transmission software developed that will allow us to turn it up.

What exact details of the TCU tune? I assume reduction in power during shifts to not destroy the clutch plates. I bet you can still break the trans:)

So you're saying you don't know:brag:hahaha, it's not rocket science, there are only so many parameters. Give us some general details when you can. You running upgraded VB pressure in the trans? I tend to like it as it certainly tightens shifts up, but now my fear is breaking an input shaft since the shifts are crisp, under Sport mode at least.

I agree, this *is* awesome! Thanks for posting the video. It would be cool to get our cars together some time.

I am enjoying the heck out of the black RS6A. My only regret is that I don't get to hear it roar as it accelerates ;>).

Andy, please post some pics of your car in this or another thread, as I'm sure that your detailing and photography skills are far superior to than what I've shown this far.

Maybe you can start a new thread called "US RS6 Avants" or some variant?

Friend sent this to me over the weekend.

Only RS6+ Replica stateside.

Hmm.

This is one of those times that I wish I did all that social media stuff.

So then he should definitely know better to say that it's the only one stateside, right?

Unless it depends on what his definition of 'is' is.

Perhaps he meant RS6+? OK, what does the "plus" add?

Steve, I'm planning to do a photoshoot sometime in the near future. My grey S6 has a leaky rad (I ordered a replacement) so I've been driving the RS6A quite a bit lately and loving every minute of it. I'm taking it to an Audi Club event in Cranberry on Wed.
Rory, sorry to ~threadjack.

The RS6 Plus had a BRV engine code rather than the BCY. It was for the most part the same aside from standard aux radiators, more powerful ECM tune, black trim rather than the brushed aluminum, and I think there was a fancy plaque too.

Don't be so sure. I have an Atlas Grey S6 with dark grey 5 spoke wheels, but not as low. I also have SteveKen's black RS6A with grey wheels. It truly is a blast to drive, the "dibs" cue is 4 deep.

Can you let us know the mods needed to get the rs5 rear on? I have a brake thread on here as well...

You need a 6mm spacer between the knuckle and caliper. The bolts are long enough to still use since there's some extra thread on them. I used a hardened piece of steel that was slightly over 6mm thick and made a spacer out of it. Super simple.

THANK YOU! Sooo any room for a 5mm wheel spacer back there to make it easy? I was going to run them anyway to get my wheel/tire setting right with the fender. :)

June 29th, 2017, 17:21
I'm honestly not sure what the clearance would be like with stock wheels. I'm running 19x9 S5 peelers with a 10mm spacer in the rear, and I've got miles of clearance.

Not worried about fitment i got that covered lol. Just wondering if i can run my ecs spacer under the rotor instead of on the outside, for the same effect. Know what i mean?

No, because that would move it the wrong direction. You'd need an even larger caliper spacer and longer bolts at that point.

Ohhh ok yea i read that too fast haha, same thing I was told from some overseas guy that did it with the bigger rear RS7 rotor, (he said it was around 3-4mm tho?) was thinking the offset was different for RS5 or something lol.

Thanks brotha!
