Out of nowhere trunk latch stopped catching. Release button on driver door jamb had been busted for a while so I thought maybe that but replaced with new and same.

Dash console shows trunk open and I think when I try and lock car with key it doesn't beep as usual as if it knows some aperture is still unsecure??

I haven't tried anything else yet... lazy. Haven't checked fuses or pulled deck-lid panel. I figured someone in this all-knowing RS6 universe might know... save me headache.

I know its not as sexy as a manual conversion or turbo swap question but any insights much appreciated. Just trying to keep this classic puppy fully functional. I don't drive it that often but 9 times out of 10 every time I do someone comments on it... "I remember reading about those cars" lol.

Open trunk
Remove trunk lid liner
Inspect and test lock actuator assembly

I'll give it a 50/50 whether it's the actuator gear (plastic bits mentioned by lswing) or the sensor.

Quick test mode - use your key to manually lock the trunk, then hit your lock button. If you get the beep, it's probably the sensor.
