I got a Porsche Cayman S now as my daily..I still have the RS6 though, just as a Sunday driver. Does anyone know any other good Porsche forums? I see there are a couple out there. Just wanted your guys opinion of the best forums, since you guys ARE the best forum!

Rennlist and Pelican parts are two great forums.

Congrats! I too just became a Porsche owner this month :)

6speedonline is the forum I just joined. It's a mostly late model Porsche forum but also includes air-cooled and other high end marques.

Thanks for the suggestions. Did you get rid of the Audi Turbowned?

The guys above listed the typical Porsche forums, you can also check Luxury for Play, there is a Porsche section there that I used to frequent when I had my 911.

Congrats!

I have a 997 C4s, and spend most of my time on Rennlist. I visit 6speedonline once in awhile, but there is not nearly as much going on there.

As a Cayman owner, youll definitely want to join planet-9. That seems to be where all the Cayman and Boxster guys hang out.

Good Luck and enjoy the car !!!

So Specs on the Cayman? I see it's and S. 6spd or PDK? I did the Porsche experience drive 6mths back and loved the Cayman GTS with the PDK. I've heard from a in the know Porsche guy that if I had loved the GTS then the GT4 is night and day better and not really a bad almost daily driver. 3.8ltr in the Cayman and shave 100lbs, gotta love that.

Very nice!

You know your other car is costly when a Porsche is the daily...

Almost picked up an 09 CaymanS as well but decided on a C4S to be my
RS6's stablemate. They compliment each other quite well . Cheers !

Negative. Still waiting for me to get off my butt and replace the steering rack, control arms and shocks. I'm hoping I won't have to sell her once that's completed.

Shameless pic of my new 911 (and the BRZ getting traded in):

I'll have to check out Rennlist now...

lol no shame. What are we all doing these days? Buying Porsches from Audis? I actually op'ed out of a 6 speed. When you live in the San Antonio Area a manual is terrible. I have the triptronic. Pretty base car.

The Porsche/Audi RS6 ownership club continues to grow. Congrats on the nice ride!!! Mine is fairly basic as well- it does have the 6sp but is missing radio and most interior bits..;0

Ohhhh, now you show up:)....due to excessive Porsche content (and my own jealousy) this thread needs to be closed...

Funny story: two days after I traded my BRZ for the 911 my friend Sam messaged me on Facebook asking how I liked the car. He started doing research on them and within a week had put his supercharged BRZ back to stock and picked out a similar silver '05 Carrera S; he just collected it from the dealer two days ago! I let my friend Paul drive it (who owns a turbocharged, widebody BRZ), and I suspect the recent "I might want to sell my car" vibes I've been seeing on Facebook have something to do with driving my car ;)

I got a chance to attend a Porsche driving experience two days ago and thrashed my car on the track; it felt fantastic! It totally validated my purchase (at least until they put me behind the wheel of the 2015 Cayman S PDK with a whole host of optional extras and it made my 911 feel archaic!)

I have never been an advocate of automatic/dual clutch gearboxes but after finding situations where it was actually difficult to make a gear change while coming out of a banked corner into a short straight, I could really see the advantage of the PDK. Not as fun as rowing your own, but definitely superior if you're chasing the fastest lap times.

Good thing they didn't put you in a new GT3.

It's all pretty much a disappointment after that.

Nice 997, and yeah, Rennlist is definitely where the most 997 guys are.

Since everyone else is posting pics, here's mine, an 08 C4s 6speed

These cars a complete blast to drive. All I can say to anyone interested in them, is go for an extended test drive in an area with some nice twisty roads. For most people, a spirited drive on the right roads, will be more than enough to make them a fan.

Ooh, I like your seats v8a6! I would kill to have the sport seats with the Porsche crests on them. That and the leather dashboard. And leather/Alcantara everything else, for that matter. And PCM 2.1, and the X51 power kit, and PCCB, and... Oh heck, I like the car just the way it is! It's 100 times better than 90% of the cars on the road today.

Thanks!

Yeah, the possible mods on these cars are never-ending. Im a big alcantara fan too, so I may swap some GT3 parts in eventually and maybe some other performance mods. But, as you said, they are really amazing to drive completely stock.

Before shelling out $$$ for OEM Porsche leather/Alcantara parts, try contacting JPM Coachworks in Smyrna, GA. They reupholstered my entire BRZ's interior in Italian leather and Alcantara for probably less than half of what you'd pay for some of the Porsche OEM parts; they can do any color or custom fabric you like, too:

Yeah man that looks sick! So after owning the Porsche for a couple of weeks I have made my judgement. Audi RS6 > Porsche any day. Lots of factors go into that, but I really do like driving my RS6 more than the Porsche.

Wow! Surprising. Is your Cayman a 6speed or Auto/PDK?

Ive never driven a Cayman, but the 997 C4s I have did take a few days to get used to. However, once I began to feel really comfortable in the car, I found it to be an absolute blast to drive.

I wonder, if it is the lack of power in the Cayman that is having it come up short in the comparison?

In any case, you have two incredible automobiles that are quite different from each other. A great combo, I would think. Have fun!

Cayman GT4 is no daily driver...

Congrats on your purchase.

Auto PDK. The power difference is noticeable..the Porsche is so slow compared to the Audi, but the main thing that makes me choose the Audi is the handling and suspension. Like Erik said and someone else. This car shouldn't be a daily driver and they are both two different classes of cars. I'm willing to bet the 2016 RS3 is x10 better than the 2016 Cayman.

v8a6
May 27th, 2015, 22:42
Wait... Erik said the GT4 is no daily driver. The Cayman S and the GT4 are worlds apart.

I have to be honest with you, I dont know how you can prefer the handling of a 4000 pound AWD sedan over a sub-3000 pound mid-engine Porsche. Especially a Cayman, where everyone raves about the handling, above all else. But I guess everyone has their own preferences.

BTW, I drive my 997 C4s daily, and even in the winter with snow tires. I use it to drop my four year old daughter at school, and for grocery trips to load up at Costco. I guess everyone has a different idea of the ideal daily driver.

If you want something more daily driver friendly, then the new Porsche's are definitely for you. That is exactly what people like (and dislike) about the 991. It is less raw and engaging than previous models, and more GT than sports car. Try one out if you get the chance.

I love both of my cars for different reasons. I used to say this about my BRZ vs. the RS6, too. I like having a sharp tool in the garage to complement the big, blunt hammer ;)

Ha

I only have blunt hammers. Lol

I dont think I could insure a P car for 200/6mo.....so I keep my hammers.
