Do we follow- Audi's guidelines on "Air bags needing to be replaced after 14 years". Any idea on costs ? I'm sure it's not cheap.

Didn't know this.

Next thing you know, we'll have to pack our own airbags, like sky divers with their chutes.

I was wondering when this question was going to get posted!

Good point. Surely the bags will work past the point in time, but there's always a risk it won't. At least we don't have the current air-bag debacle going on like BMW and Honda. Survive the crash, but have your throat (or other favorite body part) gashed out by metal debris traveling at Mach2.

I have my Audi dealer contact in Portland putting an estimate together for the RS6. Might have to see what my wholesale cost is for the air bags, too.

Interestingly my AirBag warning light has been coming on and off for a year now apparently due to faulty harness??? and dealer suggests a complete replacement, so price is in the $1,000.00 range per. side labor and material. Audi dealer in NorCal - probably more than in other parts of the country. I will get this done in March.

All of us have: 2 front, front seat sides, side curtains, and rear seat sides were an option.

I would be up for a group buy, as my airbag light is on and the dealer cost is 700.00 for the driver side.

Yeah me too. I now have two C5s that are going to need airbags soon. Anyone know how we could arrange one?

Airbag Center online has part number 186056 driver airbag and related parts for 250.00 - I called them to ask what are the related parts, and they said my code could be caused by any number of things, but it is not likely the airbag itself.

Just think of the 14 year old car as any 14 year old car, drive it carefully and you'll never see the airbag deploy. An old car is like an old man. If you beat it it will die.

Then again, if you don't flex those muscles, they turn into flab.

14 isn't old just mid-aged and perfect!

I like my women like I like my scotch - aged 15 years and deprived of oxygen!

I like my women like I like my coffee - ground up and stored in the freezer!

Haaaaaaaaa

But in all seriousness, if you're concerned about your airbags (and don't have lights/codes being set from them), take your beast to a reputable stealership, have them perform a full systems check and diagnostic (2 hrs labor), they may recommend removal/inspection of individual bags (they may not), and will _probably_ want to replace your igniters (*6, or *8 if you have rear side bags).

As a side note, I found my actual build date through Pre-Purchase Inspection when I bought Skulld (yes, that's her name, from the Norse mythology, Skulld is one of the 3 Norns who decide the fate of men) from Tech_Gurru, 905530 rolled off the Quattro Gmbh line 10/10/2003.

I fully realize that typing a joke on an internet forum loses a lot in translation over telling a joke in person (particularly when people don't really know you), but yikes.

Also, I believe the preferred spelling is "Skuld."
