V1 or 9500ix?

Anybody want to throw a few cents out here? Leaning towards the V1. Anyone wire the power from the back of the mirror? Might install closer to the steering wheel area too. Thanks!

Tough decision. I have both and would say if you do a fair amount of driving in the city or suburbs then the 9500ix is the winner due to a better filter and the GPS feature which can lock out known polluters such as Alarms and such. On the open road the Valentine may have the edge due to price, maybe a slightly better range?, and the arrows. I like them both and use them in two different daily drivers every day. My commute goes from country to suburb/city and on my 23mile commute I would take the Escort. Also they have a new Escort that is suppose to be a slight step-up from the 9500ix.

Great, very similar to reviews I've been reading. Will look into the newer Escort, I'll ask my wife for one for Christmas:) Only in a Texas for 6 more months, and the wide open roads and speed make me want the V1, plus the arrows. Both US speed records across the country used the V1. Cheers!

Passport, Passport, Passport. Ditched a V1 for an 8500 X50 years ago and wouldn't go back. Now I have 9500i on one car and QI45 on another. BTW did I mention how much the V1 LOVES side warning radar?

The Escort Redline is supposed to be pretty good, too, though I have never had one. It is next on my list.

Also, some of the Beltronics units are based around the same engineering as the Escort units (they are built by the same company now), but are more customizable in behavior, alerts, scanning, etc.

V1 has noticably better laser detection, but laser detection isn't very important because if you get a hit, you're most likely the one who got clocked. This is why I have Escort laser shifter, which not only increases Passport's range to more than V1's, it also can confuse the laser unit for long enough to slow down.

Didn't notice this part. Both V1 and Passport use a standard modular RJ12 (four wire telephone) plug. It is very easy to create an adaptor or wiring harness of any type your like for this purpose.

I am much more a fan of built in units, but had my 8500 attached above my old Cadillac's mirror for a few years. It powered on with the car and wouldn't be speed without looking for it. It was totally trouble free. I now have a Passport Qi45, 8500i, and SR7, all with laser shifter modules, on my various cars. A pro tip... Put the display/control for a remote unit in the ashtray unless you actually use it for something. I don't care for where the Passport display on my RS6 is located, and just removed the sensor from the intercooler inlet and put it somewhere sensible, because whoever installed it was stupid or something.
