Hi,
Just been reading up on another board where exhaust sound was increased by washing out the padding inside the mufflers.
Seems like an interesting method, I'll have to give it a go with the 325, since the loundness has become conservative again since it's been serviced earlier in the week.
The practice isn't for the faint of heart.
First the car should be driven hard so there's lots of heat in the exhaust(s), then the car should be rested on a hill with the engine running, the engine higher than the rear of the car, then for no more than 6 seconds at a time insert a hose into the exhaust tips, with a gentle stream of water running, keep the engine running because that'll stop anything going further into the exhaust.
Once this is done, give the car some revs to remove the debris/padding and water, (that can get into the engine) from the inside of the muffler(s), then take the car for another heated run -This should also prevent corrosion to the inside of the exhaust(s). If the exhaust isn't at the desired db, do this again untill it is.
Thanks to Rob (Triflow, from m5board.com) for the tip.
