Per Automobile magazine January 04 issue.

RS6 to be V8 biturbo producing 500 hp due 2006.

other motors in base A6

standard 250hp 3.2L V6
optional 5.0L V10 with 420hp and 384ftlbs (base on the Gallardo's but detuned)

If I want a 500hp V8 biturbo i'll just pay $2800 for a chip and save my-self the $$$$ on the new RS6.

Audi had better take a close at the competition before sticking with the V8 bi turbo in the new RS6. New E60 M is now rumored to have 530 to 540hp.

My feeling is that Audi is just playing the magazines to keep the lid on motor type and power output. Keep the competition guessing untill the last minute so that they think they don't have to increase their power outputs. I would guess they would end up with a V-10 biturbo between 550hp and 600hp. Just my opinion though no proof:D :D

Bauer,

Thanks for the headsup. :0:

I like what Audi is doing...ashame about the BMW boys. Although, we should let the battle commence! :byeM5:

Ben-

Good info- maybe in 3-4 years I'll be giving you a ride in my V-10 twin turbo RS6.... ;-)

Hope all is well in Lafayette.... give my best to your wife.

Cheers-
Ernesto

p.s. Let me know if you make any Tahoe runs this year- I've got my cabin in Truckee and end up in Squaw most of the time. Maybe we can meet up and do a couple of rungs. Though I don't expect to be up ther until mid-january due to work.

Hope they stick to a biturbo and autobox and AWD and... so i wont feel tempted to buy a RS6 and not an M5! :D

The M5 will always be the king :king:

Were they talking about the "next" RS6 or an update to the current version? The 500hp motor is the same as ours, but with direct fuel injection. I can't imagine Audi would take such a small incremental step for the next RS6. Given the new A6 isn't even here yet, I don't believe the '06 date either.

Especially with the other motors for the A6 ...

I don't think, and I really mean DON'T, that the next RS 6 will have the V8.
I also think that the next RS 4 will have a high-rev V8 n/a.

The M5 is going V10 and so is Audi's RS 6.

Btw, I spoke to a dealer who saw the new A6 is real life down in Germany.
He said it looked spectacular. I don't remember if he said it was 7 cm (about 2 inches) wider or longer.
But he said it would probably be quite expensive. :eye:

Anyway, looking forward to it! :king:

PS. The real big step for the car manufacturers is not to beef up the enignes, hp or torque. It's to get the cars lighter, more safe and fill them with more electronic gadgets.
Looking forward to more aluminium, carbon fibre etc.

Erik,

I think the LeMans Quattro does all of the above. 600 hp, 1500 kg, and a lot of hi-tech! Of course, all of that doesn't come cheap.

I am sure there are others on here that are members of the Audi Club of North America if so tell me if you guys read this in the last issue of quattro quarterly Fall 2003. It said that the next generation (MY 2006 based on the C6 Chassis) RS6 would have the 10 cylinder Lamborghini Gallardo engine. I do not know the truth to this but it sounds awesome to me yet dissapointing as well. Reason for disipointment is I was told that the RS6 would probably never come back to the US which is the main reason I bought the car. I guess I may be a easy sale to a car company if this is not the case.
If it does come back to the USA I sure hope it is in an Avant package.
Maybe if I wanted rare I should have waited for the Carrera GT Porsche.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_201.gif' border=0></a>

I will just have to wait and see.

I'm with Ben. Audi will definately need more than an update of the engine. I also think that they are playing the magazines as the press are hanging on every little word cause they need something to print in their publications:D

Otherwise the choice will be VERY easy to keep my "old" Beast:cheers:

I have never really had a problem jumping into the market for a great car. However, right now I am. My RS-6 is scheduled to be here in a few days but I may pass. My problem is that I'll take a huge beating anyway I look at it. I anticipate getting a new RS-6 or M5 in early '06 if available. If I trade my '02 Porsche in now I realize horrible depreciation and still need to add about $30K to the deal. The dealership still wants MSRP on the RS-6 even this late in '03. In one year my RS-6 will probably be worth less than the Porsche according to projected residuals. The change in the body style of the A6 and the anticipation of V10 RS-6's and M5's won't help either.
Part of the reason I may wait is I have an A64.2 and although you can't compare its performance to the RS-6 from the inside the seats, electronics...aren't much different. If I want fun I can drive my C4S(yes I know it's slower than the RS-6). It is beginning to feel like the computer industry where you can't leave the store without there being a newer better version by the time you get home.
I have yet to develop a strong bias between manufacturers. Dare I say I like RS-6's and M5's. Each have their strengths and weaknesses. I believe the next generation of vehicles will be lighter( estimated at 3700lbs for the M5) and have V10's. I don't think they will be turbo'd as they can develop up to 580HP with tuning alone. As for technology who knows! Sounds like the PC in the console concept needs to be reworked. Heads up displays may help but when you're driving aggressively or in demanding conditions taking your eyes two feet to the right and one foot down then flip a dial 3 times to change radio stations just doesn't seem like a good idea.
I guess I'm thinking aloud but it's hard to put $85K into a RS-6 right now...wish I did it 9 months ago!
