Looked sweet - until the pics of the blue alcantara roof liner ... yikes, what were they thinking?

Regardless, $12K is too low - what else is wrong with it (besides the missing carbon fibre piece in the engine)?

Liner panel isn't blue. That's just the flash washing the photo. Got one that looks exactly like it here in the garage for sale. Lol. Same everything except double the mileage. 10k and it's someone's new winter beater.

You know a car like that, on a lot like that, is getting a beating every day...probably by the owner and his dealer plate...

Someone save it. The person that flops into that for 12K without knowing anything is buying a parts car. Or buying something they will not have the resources to cover the inevitable after purchase expenses.

Ditto on the dealer plates/car thrash thing. Once decided I was going to torture myself with RS6itis - the first one I drove was at a sleazy dealership like that. I knew when I saw the advert and where it was coming from, I would never buy it, but you need to drive a few before you know what a good one is. This car had been put away wet manymany times.

What a pile it was. Rebuilt title, mismatched front end panels (not easily seen), and the R/H side of the dash sounded as if maybe half the fasteners and insulation made it back after being torn apart on the rebuild.

Hauled gluteous though, and while I turned down several lesser offers to buy the car, I knew I had been bitten somewhere....

JUST AN FYI and i didnt even take the time to look if there was a car fax. But a while back, a while, before i bought mine, one went through auction, blue, out of manheim california and then showed up at a texas dealer ask top dollar. But it had an accident, went through manheim as an accident car, but it got 30K money or something dumb, so someone just screwed up clicking on their bids without looking. The dealer in texas was really small time if i remember. I wonder if it is that car... Or it could just be the mileage!

The 03/04 RS6 will only ever get so cheap. Even with double the mileage $12K is cheap.

This is not the same car. How do I know? Because I was the dealer that bought it. I put a proxy bid on the car. Later on that afternoon I was at another auction and was told that I had won the auction. When it went through the auction they announced that it had frame damage. It was not disclosed when I put my proxy bid in. Regardless I owned it at the end of the day. VW of North America was the seller and if they detect prior paint work they can and will call it frame just to cover their butt. Luckily after thorough inspections by my local Audi dealership it didn't have frame damage and i got a Fidelity Platinum Warranty for it. It was my personal car for a year and a half until someone made me a offer I couldn't pass up. Its still in Texas and running strong.

One can only hope! I was hoping that buying one 10yrs old it had reached the low point of depreciation. Hard to say for sure, though. I notice the price of E28/E39 M5's continue to drop while cars like the E30 M3 continues to rise. There aren't too many old rare Audis to gauge depreciation off of; C4 S6 maybe?

I feel bad for anyone who buys this car thinking it'll be a $12k car when it breaks!

Kvicen, did you have a chance to chk this car out? I was considering it but was scared it might be a flood car. I'm in Amarillo. It would be a near daily driver for me. Thoughts on issues from that standpoint would be nice.

I ran a carfax and autocheck on it, and it's not a flood car. Shoot me a PM if you want a copy of the reports.

No, I haven't had a chance to go and look at it. I have gone out of town every week for the last 6 weeks. I will be back on Thursday and could possibly look at it this weekend if you are interested. Let me know and I will be glad to help.

I just bought this RS6 today. I have been searching for 4 months and have been lurking on this form for even longer. It is actually in pretty good shape especially for the price. I bastered the power steering fluid out and did the lock to lock 3 times. I replaced it due to some noises coming from it now it is smooth as butter. I topped off the engine coolant (there was actually Audi dealer coolant in trunk in the side pocket along with transmission fluid and oil.) Not sure if that is a good sign or bad sign. I had the dealer park it last night up in a clean concrete corner so when I picked it up this morning if there was any leaks it would have shown. It is in desperate need of an alignment! Any recomendations on a shop that can do that in the dfw area would be great! It also needs a good balance. Got a little shaky when I pushed it. There is a list of cosmetic interior items I want to address but really it is all cosmetic. The exterior is clean and straight. I am looking forward to washing it thouroughly, clay barring it and waxing it. Glad to finally be an owner of a RS6. Hopefully this one will treat my wallet kindly!

I live close to TCU. Istook's in Fort Worth does a lot of work on Audi's. He actually races a TTRS professionally. Zinks Autohaus works on Audi also. Steve Zink is the owner. I met him at Texas Track Works. Those are all good places to start. You might check out Lone Star Audi Club. It's a good way to meet other Audi owners in this area and they put on events every now and then. Two weeks ago they had a event at Motorsport Ranch in Cresson where all of the Audi owners got to drive their cars on the track.

good thing someone bought it and saved it, as far as i can tell from the pictures the car does look to be in a pretty good condition, for tha money you bought it you can spend some on maintenance but at the end of the day you've still got a good deal i'd say...after i bought the second RS6 within the first two months i had already spent about 3k$...almost 1k$ it was the RNS-E :), once you've had it is hard to live without.

Thanks for the info! Hopefully I can get it set up early next week.
Anybody have any suggestions on things I should look to address first as far as preventitive maintenance?
The timing belt had no record of ever being done. I was able to look at the belt and it looked like it was in pretty good condition.
I flushed the powering steering fluid, I would like to flush the transmission fluid, engine oil, coolant, brakes, and front and rear diff. nasically all fluids in the car.
Is that a good idea or bad idea?
The 3rd to 4th shift is alittle jumpy I have noticed. Not sure if swapping the fluid out will help or not.
I have been out to Cresson once got to take an LP560 around the track it was an awesome experience. Would love to take the Audi out there once I know it isnt going to fall apart on me.
I am in love with the car though. It sounds great it feels great and I am having a hard time not putting the pedal down.

if you have no record of the timing belt that's the first thing you should do, you don't want to take that risk because if it fails it will destroy the engine so it doesn't worth not spending the extra money to have it done. And then all that you've mentioned above.

Zink is great with the RS6, he knows it well. He is a former Audi Specialist. Did my timing belt for a great price.

Unfortunately his shop burned down. Not sure where he is going with the business......

Took the car over to Texas Track Works today. Highly recommend them to anyone nice guys. They took the time to point out something's I knew and didn't already know. The front and rear rotors need to be replaced. Anyone know of a good aftermarket/oem place to purchase those from?
what I didn't know was both cv boots are torn and leaking very slowly.
those look rather inexpensive to replace or rebuild that is.
