WRONG!
Since the BMW M3's speedlimit is fixed at 250 but the S4 continues up to 265-270 km/h the S4 is the fastest of the them.

Excellent article. Thanks, Eric. S4 won on price. Without price factored in, the M3 took the honors. All-in-all, a pretty close race.

Yes you do. You have to get rid of the V Max and that is tuning.

Bye bye... :mouthshut :bye:

Bla, bla bla ..
So my 11year old M5 is faster then your Rs6s , S4s and M3s?
It came from fartory with no speed limit, it hits 280km/h ....
arrg what a stupid discution!
And BTW I see a 130mph limited speed on the S4 , isnīt it?

Once again the M3 is the winner !
And if the price is a problem I see a manual version going to win that battle!

M3 is the drivers choice for shure! If you wanna go fast and feel fast drive the M3 , if you wanna go fast and feel...nothing buy a S4 and a C32...my daily drive e a Audi...very nice but I get bored!

Top speed, the S4 is faster. For whatever it's worth.
Acceleration is another story.

130 mph = 209 km/h. The S4 and the M3 are officially limited at 250 km/h but the one I tried (stock) vs. the M3 (stock) caught up and wanted to over take the M3 when then M3 had about 260 km/h on the speedo.

Hence the discussion.

Don't trust everything you read in magazines. ;) As far as I know the S4 is limted to 250 km/h (officially).

It's all in here as well, facts not fiction:

So to you the facts are:
S4 is faster cus speed limiter kicks later...but its 7secs slower around nurburgring ... you like 4WD but you dont like to lose at high speeds...

Canīt understand why dont you admit the M3 is faster...but never mind we have our minds made up!

:D great discussion, as an Audi-lover i have to admit that the BMW M3 is the faster car. But don`t forget the S4 is a bit more heavier than the M3, on a normal/dry straight road the M3 wins. :vsad2: only a small amount of rain and :bye: bye:bye: bye M3:byeM5:

One thing we`ve got a V8:s4addict:

Eh, BIG misunderstanding.

The M3 has better acceleration.
The S4 has a higher top speed.

The M3 is faster @ Nürburgring - also don't forget the M3 time is from last year when the surface was old so the difference is more than 7 secs.

How often do you, M3 and S4 drivers hit >250 km/h ? on your way to work ?

btw, I'd have chosen old S4 not the new one. The turbo-spinning sound is something that CANNOT be replaced by more engine capacity.... :vsad2:

people like M3 because it's quicker than s4?
Don't think so...Old chipped S4 could kick my butt
when i had 02M3, and it was still cheaper...
S4 had a lot of potential, but M3...nothing...just good handling...
However, i really lliked M3...that's why i bought it instead of S4.
I traded M3 for RS6, but I still miss my m3.
However, if i had a choice between v8s4 and m3, i would
go for s4...why? simple. S4=good handling, V8-lots of torque,
AWD...0-60 or quarter mile numbers do not mean anything to me
since i do not drag race...
Most important thing is how you feel when you drive a car.
In M3, i just could not stand with the engine sound in high RPM.
If I was comparing v8s4 and new v8m3....well...that might be a
different sotry...

M3 is faster than S4 on top speed as well. IT has better aerodynamics, more high rpm power, etc. M3 has more power at the wheels than an S4 diue to lower drivetrain losses. IF do dyno an M3 & S4 back to back you will see the M3 push about 27kw more at the wheels than an S4. At high speeds an M3 will kill an S4 (even at low speeds for that matter).

Why? Do we want me to lie & tell you the S4 has more high rpm power at the wheels than an M3. If you don't agree with me, then tough. I happen to be telling the truth. 4WD lose about 30% power getting to the wheels while RWd loses about 15%. Work it out.

As I said, never ending..

And still a stock S4 is capable of something a stock M3 can't do...+270km/h...really amazing, isn't it?

Hmm...

In any case. This was just another test won by the Audi S4 V8 ;) :s4addict:

Wrong again. That particular S4 is capable of 270. In Australia they tested an E36 EVO that had a faulty governor & it hit 283 km/h for the test. What does that mean? No need for everyone to get defensive. All I'm saying is the M3's quicker. I hope none of you buy a car based on what a journalist says.

All I ever said was that when we drove the S4 vs. the M3 - both stock - on the highway the S4 would have passed the M3.

There's even a video to prove it, even though the S4 had to back off for safety. (no need to prove anything stupid at that speed)
The M3 then had 260 km/h on the speedo (I think), what the S4 had I don't know since the drive was busy with more important things. As you say, what the spped tells you is not so interesting. What's interesting is that the limiter on the M3 is lower than the S4. For whatever that's worth. And that the S4 will beat the M3 up to about 200-350 meters even in good conditions. Wet conditions not tested, luckily for the M3. :)

http://www.rs6.com/articles/019.html

Can't really see the problem except that a few M3 people seem to have problems with that the S4 wins another test.

I'm used to it, same thing happened when the RS6 started winning tests over the M5.
Audi had paid the magazines and bla. bla. bla.

It's just interesting to see it happen in an Audi S/RS-forum...

Like I said, I'm not saying which car is better. All I'm saying is the M3 is quicker. If you want to say the S4 is faster because its limiter kicks in later, then go for it if that makes you happy.

I'm not sure what you're arguing about then? I've driven both, probably the M3 more than the S4, so I know what they're good at and not.

Download the M3 CSL video instead and cool down :D

Ladies please.......
Although the S4 and M3 are both pitched in the same market, they're very different animals.
A lot of the personal criteria behind buying a car is emotional and image driven anyway, so comparing an S4 to an M3 is like comparing a golf club against a snooker cue.
Although I'm sure there's a large area of cross over, most poeple will want an M3 for one reason and an S4 for totally another, so please, can this subject get put to bed and the forum space get used for something slightly less repetative.

Greame, you hit the nail right on the head. They are different animals. Let's all be very happy that these cars are produced and are winning comparisions. Each are in a different class,(Sports Car & Sports Sedan). If these cars keep winning the hearts and minds of journalists and the public, Audi & BMW will keep making them. Then everybody wins!
