I have put two emails and a call into my local shop and can't get them to reply like they used to. Does anyone have a shop recommendation for a timing belt job? I have thought about JHM but they are a bit far out and I am not sure how many RS6's they have worked on.

Any reputable Audi indy shop should be able to do it. Timing belt on the RS isn't that much different on the RS vs. A6/8 4.2 (maybe 4 more bolts and a few clamps). I was scared to death to do mine as it was the first timing belt I have ever done, but works great.

Ok... thanks. That makes sense I guess. After reading the thread on transmission work I just figured a specialist is in order. I will just try to find a reputable german specialist. I wish I could do it myself but I just can't with a remodel about to start and my garage being full. :-/

Making it public, I've been using BR Racing in Los Gatos http://www.brrperformance.com/ Bruce and Robb are first class guys, and they do a lot of work on high end cars well beyond ours. A good number of our cars roll through there, and when I have had some unusual issues (like my recent ECU flame out), they have been on top of it. They would be a bit of a trek from Danville, but you can trust them. Tell Robb I sent you ;-).

I have been totally satisfied with Terry Griffin and his techs at Griffin Motorwerke. Although I don't have the finished product yet. Sonnon Audi in San Rafael told me Terry was the RS6 guy to see in the area....take that for what it's worth.

Griffin Motorwerke is in Berkeley. http://www.g-werke.com/

Thanks Papadoc and Del Strator. I will check into them. I did search around on BRR. I see good things on their website and saw how they solved your issues for you. With the shop being in Los Gatos, that puts a toll on my wife to follow me there for drop off and pickup.

I have seen g-werke over the years but have never been there. What are they doing to your car?

Basically everything I am having done except stereo. Bilstein coilovers, install EPL upgraded rebuilt OE turbos, upper and lower control arms, Apikol bushing front to back, 517 built transmission, meth injection, intercoolers, Loba 390mm big brakes C6 calipers, Milltec exhaust, working with Tony of EPL on the tune using a local dyno, STE PPD install, lots of clean up to satisfy my OCD need for cleanliness in places that I won't ever see, modifying my FMU intake and some other stuff I am sure I am forgetting.

Terrry is quite a character. He use to be a F1 photographer and has all kinds of contacts and stories in and of the Motorsports world. I walked in the other day to show him the Champion race car hood with the cut out ducts. I asked him about getting them done to my car. He said he has been for a ride in the car and knows the guys that built the hoods. We were going to have it done but the FMU intake causes some issues. I told him to just get it running and we will see about that in the future......

Anyway, I look forward every time I get to stop by. His right hand man Curly is really helpful as well.

If you stop by tell him Christopher sent you.

For what it's worth, I've heard good things about Griffin as well. Too far for me to go. I was surprised to hear about your experience with 034. Even though I am on the Peninsula, that drive to Los Gatos for BRR usually raises an eyebrow at least when I ask the wifey for transportation help.

034 is a great shop. I think the problem is that they are so great they are slammed and it makes it a challenge to balance the load. I am sure they make tons of money from all of the B5 work they do and modifications are more interesting than maintenance for sure! I know what one I like to do. ;)

I did stop in on my way home from work (one of the reasons they are so convenient) the day after I posted this and spoke to them. I made an appointment but they are not able to take me until the 23rd. I am considering talking to other shops to get it done but there is no hurry since I recently got a daily driver to get me to work more economically. Also, they are on my way home from work it makes it really easy for me to pick up the intercoolers for the weekend and do some work on them to seal them up, too. Then I just drop them off Monday morning. They were totally cool about that which helps a lot. Driving to Berkeley or to Los Gatos would he harder to do the same thing. I commute Santa Clara to Danville.

I really do like that you guys gave two other options in the area that have RS6 knowledge. Up until this thread I figured 034 was the only game in town. I like knowing that there are options.
