Ok, I finally installed RNS-e today and am having a problem with radio reception. When we were putting radio back into dash it was noticed that when you moved your hand towards the radio there would be interference in the one or two stations that actually can be recieved....which would lead me to lean towards a grounding issue. There was an old code for antenae which was already there after a shop attempted to install my previous RNS-e that ended up having a bad drive unit.

Unfortunately, since I never listen to the radio I cannot be certain that the bad reception condition did not exist before installing radio today. So not being able to sleep, I went out and logged the fault codes which are now numbering 5. So, any help would be greatly apprecated.

I assume you purchased a new antenna connection to mate the pre-existing wiring to the RNS-E. Make sure that this is firmly connected in the rear of the unit. Also, you may have to disconnect the antenna in the trunk. I had to do this with my b5 s4.

Sounds like you have a harness issue. Also, you need to unplug all existing telematic and sat radio equipment if you have those modules still in the car. They will interfere with CAN and other signals in the car. the sat modules which came with our car are not RNS-E compatible (must upgrade to newer module).

I never had sat radio, or At least not that I know of. I have a OEM BT module that I have not installed yet.....so all the OnStar equipment is still plugged in. Are you saying that that has to be disconnected or I will end up with those fault codes?

So why do you have the OnStar still plugged in?
Mark (hahnmg63) suggested that we use the OnStar sat connection to the RNS-E versus using the magnetic hockey puck.
Then you get to rip out the crappy OnStar module and batteries.

Also if any members around you, they could diagnose harness issues by swapping harnesses

The shop didn't have time to get into the BT yesterday.....so we used the hockey puck as a temporary until we have time to go into the passenger floor to do that next.

rssik is in the area but is also having reception issues.

The RNS-E should still work fine with the Onstar plugged in but as Ben mentioned I would pull it and use the Onstar GPS antenna, especially since your planning on using the Onstar wiring for Bluetooth. Even if you have the old Sat module the rest of the RNS-E should work fine, it just won't tune any Sat stations but will be locked on the last Sat station the unit was on when you swapped in the RNS-E. A lot of antenna faults sounds like an antenna wiring issue or antenna amplifier issue to me as long as everything else is fine.

Added: Check out this thread Ron, sounds similar to yours, check the Diversity connection again per the PDF.

I cleared all the faults and only 2 came back.....the SAT fault, which I do not think will go away because there is not SAT to communicate with and the other code is either 00856 or 00858 which both pertain to the Radio ZF Output to antennae amplifier. My local station is actually working, but it fades in and out.

Mark, I tried that with the old xm unit. Got the "your car has a simplified setup, please see your dealer" screen.
