You use the half moon rubber seal if you pull the cam chain tensioner. Mine were nice and dry when I did my cam covers so I left well enough alone and just replaced the cam cover gaskets. Only been 10K miles since but they are still dry. You can see the white/creme colored seal in the second pic just under the cam adjuster.

Thanks!!! Appears to involve pulling a cam to get the tensioner off to replace the seal. Further than I want to go.

Cam tensioner just needs to be loosen after removing the chain tension using the proper tool to relieve the hydraulic tension. Hand tighten and go slowly to alow the oil to escape, the tool is plastic and breaks easy.

If you are pulling the covers, you should do the tensioner seals too. Just need to loosen the tensioner enough to slide the old seals out and the new ones in.

And the blue half round seals come with the seals too.

Should also do the cam plugs if you have the engine out and are doing the T-belt too.

correct, if you got the proper tool is easy, i didn't personally do it but i watched my mechanic doing it and it seemed easy :), since you're there do it! Also, my mech didn't want to use the Victor Reinz valve cover gaskets i bought and made me buy the OEM ones, after he initially put the VR and tight the cover the seal was too soft and when squeezed it came out too much so took it off again and put in the original one, though i didn't hear of any issues regarding the VR gaskets, i guess the original ones are VR!?
