Anyone have a good source (new or used) for Wagner I/C's? Thx.

There are a few other companies that make bigger ic's right? And can't you mod the stocks? Not sure wagners are really needed unless running bigger turbos, they are cool though.

That said, with stock IC's and my system maxed out, in the summer I certainly need the w/m to keep things stable...

So far I've seen the Wags and Apikol. Apikol uses the stock ends from yours to make the bigger cooler. I could just JB weld mine I suppose, but I think I'm getting lazy.

I've decided Thing 2 is going to get a makeover since the trans is toast and has to come out. Looking at Wag's, ACE TQ, Wizards of Nitrous, Scroll Turbos. Since it already has the coilovers and Hotchkis, should make a fun track car.

Sportec makes a set if you have extra blood to drain from your neck to pay for them.

These guys have had them listed for about 2 years (http://www.evolutionracewerks.com/node/154) I LOVE their price!

Thanks Ben. I emailed them this morning and they are not quite done yet with their testing. They said March, which might work out well for me. What is the price point? I didn't get one from them yet.

Nice! Might be game if the price is right...

What i don't see is space for the aux radiators. No worry for me as they are pulled already.

AMD welded new cores between my stock end tanks. Price was right and they flow more than stock.

They have been saying that for 2 years. I have emailed them 4-5 times in the last 2 years and every time they said they are being tested and should be ready in a month or so.

im thinking of finding a larger core and having my brothers welder buddy TIG my end tanks and a little extra material to make some. It can't be that hard.

I got the same $hit from one of the guys there.
He wanted me to "pay" for a set for them to compile their "TEST" data.
I passed on that...

What was the price? Any pics from someone who did this?

Cost was $750, he did it as a one off for me but will do so for others as well. Cores are full width of the end tanks, not set in like the stock cores.

I actually just emailed Jason about those. He quoted me $750 for the intercoolers but I also had install and leak test which was an additional 3 hours. At this point I am just assuming mine are leaking, I don't actually know.

Here is some info:
"Yea the cores are made by Bell Intercooler and are a bar and plate design vs. a tube and fin design. "

Talked with Jason also. Sounded knowledgeable and the same $750. He doesn't weld the brackets on for the intake or for the aux coolers. Good price though. That said, I ordered Wag's from Etektuning. Thanks all!

Can anyone measure the stock cores? There are plenty of companies that supply cores, wonder if its easy enough to just buy core and have the tanks welded on.

Thats what I was planning to do. I've used cores from Bell Intercoolers. Stock cores are about 9x10x3 or so. Best you can do is 3.5 or 4.5.(about $300 each). It looks like either will fit if you don't put the shroud back on the inside.

Well shit. If they'll do it for 750, it seems worth it to just have them do it.

I just installed the Apikols....couldn't be happier. The only thing I would recommend is to order them with the brackets for the auxiliary radiators so you can reinstall the rear rear shrouds.

Here is what Wagner claim is the Volume difference. i didn't compare but the pics don't do the Wagners Justice. The Welds are perfect, the finish is great, and they don't leak:
Wagner size 255 x 230 x 105mm, 6158cm ³ volume (Stock 250 x 205 x 65mm, 3331cm ³ volume)

Heatsoak what?
Obviously meth isn't a replacement for good intercoolers (especially if the stockers leak) BUT, if I have to spend that kinda loot, might as well get the best bang for my buck..

I had an older Aquamist kit on my 996 Turbo... we were able to pick up over 75whp (obviously with good tuning)...I don't see why we wouldn't have the same results with the RS6...maybe not as aggressive...

Should have my injectors back Monday..hope to get back on the dyno next week sometime...

After a while, the intercooler "heat soaks" and can't absorb as much heat from the compressed air to coolhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/#) it. The temperature of the compressed air to the enginehttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/#) goes up and that increases the chance of detonation in the cylinder."

Is the point of deleting the aux. coolant radiators to fit larger IC's? Any issues with this trade-off?
I would be leery of losing the extra radiators- even my B6 S4 had them which is of course the 4.2 NA mill.

I think there are many benefits of losing this rats nest, if you don't need it.
Yes, room for bigger IC's is a reason. heatsoak to the stock IC's is another..although not a huge issue as they are behind, but heat transfer does happen...and lastly..weight...again, not huge, but if you don't need them...

I can't speak for any other intercooler on the market for the RS6 but I can say that the wagners are a very good quality piece and I am really bummed I can't use them in my application.

Gary, I've had mine removed, have never seen the temp needle on the dash move past half, but again that's not an highly accurate meter from what I've heard, and the most I've done is 300 miles or so on an 85 degree day, still with lots of flogging:). I removed them because one was leaking, and the other corroded pretty bad. My car spent it's first 6 years in Ohio with salty roads, guessing that contributed. Did a fair amount of reading and talked with others on here that had removed them, no issues. Apparently Audi added them on for warm climate delivery locations only, so I heard, and all NA cars got them since we have a hot south. If I lived in CA, AZ, TX...they would still be on. I also like the idea of allowing more air through the IC's, and not having those radiators there as heat soaks. I swear the car had more kick once we did that, but we also cleaned the IC's and added new hoses to button up the system. Cheers!

Lou, thanks for the solid context provided with your reasonings and explanations. I had wondered if (as in how much) the mini-radiators impeded air flow. The reduced IAT (from deleted mini-me rads) might just off-set any slight ECT temp gain (? pending geographical area). European cars usually have reasonably accurate gauges based on many "dyno" test using a scanner that reads off the ECT. But wouldn't expect much gauge movement for less than 10-15F. And the gauge linearity does not coincide well with actual ECT until at operating temps.

There appears to be room behind the bumper cross member for a decent sized fan if needed......I'm putting air horns there, however.

Last year Amsoil came out with Dominator Coolant Boost which I just love- and use in my RS6 and customer cars. It works like Redline Water Wetter, but even a bit better when hot. Best thing is it helps with a faster warm up and increases the anti metal leaching protection. Would sincerely recommend using it--- matter of fact I'll give you a bottle to try next time you stop by and check out the new shop!
