Horrors being what they are, I'm on the hunt for a steel insert/bushing for my aluminum upright. Alas I'm shamefully admitting that I inadvertently threw one out that was still stuck to the ball joint on the lower rear control arm a few months ago when I was cleaning up the floor around my car. I looked right past the fact that the insert didn't stay in the aluminum upright. Now that on the final 5% of assembly I notice I am without. I am not keen on purchasing an entire upright just to get a steel insert and will have a machine shop mill one out of solid first.

Does anyone know if they can be purchased separately. I know I'm not the first to loose one, so hopefully there is a way to buy them independently or as a set anyway?

Those are a pain in the arse. Try getting ahold of the guy who posted post#8 in this thread on the "zine".

Yup. Thx. That is looking like it's a possible resort. I'm checking in to getting one machined here locally first and then as a last resort having a full arm purchased and shipped. I'm so pissed at myself in pulling of a stupid ass rookie move. I can honestly say that this is a first. I have never discarded parts until I have things back together with the new ones, but in this case some extenuating reasons kept me from doing so. I'm kicking myself hard as it's the only part left to the overhaul and of course you can't even move it out of the garage right now. damn... >sigh<

NICE!

Did you have someone machine them or did you purchase them?

Details please!

Machined at a local shop. Took them one of the original OEM inserts and they machined two out of different alloy's. One is 1144 and the other is 4140. I elected to put in the softer one as there is a lot of stress in this area. Either would have worked ultimately. I now have a nice spare for the shelf or can use it as a duplicate to have more machined. Seems like during my hunt to locate one, that many other Audi enthusiasts had similar horror stories and ended up purchasing a full upright. These can be machined for less when turned in larger quantity.

Do you have any more of these that you can ship to me? If so, let me know how much.
