Picked this up over on the audizine forums from the B5 people who are by far more into the DIY tunning and such (although they don't have TT v8's engines worth more than their car twice over by itself either.)

And here I was thinking the era of great B5/C5 vendor support was coming to a close.

Clearly, I'm mistaken.

I had a vent gauge in the ole B5, but for the RS-Sex, I'm thinking this'll do for my pig... errr.. bad usage of the phrase..

They list it for the C5 A6 as applicable as well. I presume the RS6 cluster would work as well given that the only difference afaik is the dial faces.

I read about this last week on AZ and it looks good BUT the black box that needs to be installed is about 1/2 as big as a RNS-E, so it begs the question on where the "F" to put that thing?!?!

True. the advantage would go to the C5 in this regard since there's just physically more room inside there however. Generally I think people just stuff it under the knee panel. In any event, it's not crazy expensive, and it removes the need for ugly pod gauges without sacrificing data capabilities.

Here is possibly a better option. Very bad camera man but you get the point.

I had not seen that, but it appears he's about to release a newer version even?

Sorry, the FIS-Control is sold out. Thanks to all my customers all over the world: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK and USA.
There are plans for an improved version of the FIS-Control... so this is the right time for feature requests. Just write an email.

Info: A new FIS-Control is on the way. First units will be available until the end of this year. The "FIS-Control 2.0" comes with a really powerful hardware and will include inputs for several external sensors and an interface for the Valentine One radar warner.

That was updated back in November.

It's probably not *that* much cheaper (by the time shipping and customs is done with it) but it is compact. There's no data-logging capabilities like with the STE, but that's probably not a huge concern for us.

let's also be realistic. SNAKE? Game, set, Match.

the issue that interests me is while working with a CAN based Navigation (like the RNS-E for example) since this thing essentially piggy-backs off the DIS acting like it's a Navigation system.

here he's saying bascily that it has reduced function while using Can-based systems.

Pass-through of the 3-wire-bus from a navi
The FIS-Control pretends to be a navigation-system to the DIS-display. A already installed navi can be used alternately to the FIS-Control without the need to change the wiring every time. Therefore the FIS-Control forwards all signals from the navi to the instrument cluster until the FIS-Control is activated by the user.
This is only applicable to navis using the 3-wire-bus. For navigation-system with CAN-bus and radios there are some restrictions.

I wonder if the STE interfaces this way or if it somehow by-passes this all together. I would hope so since it's so freaking big and it's piggy-tailing all 3 cluster cables.

Hey guys,

I wanted to stop by and answer a few of the questions brought up in this thread regarding the PPD unit by STE.

The unit is 100% plug and play and includes a 44 PSI MAP sensor. Our products are made in the USA (if that means anything to anyone anymore..) and developed for OEM look and feel while supporting the needs of an enthusiast.

The other product mentioned in this thread is not compatible with the RS6 and is unable to provide a real vacuum and boost reading, much less one above the OEM MAP limit. This is one of the many superior design qualities of PPD.

The PPD unit fits great behind the lower bolster and has been installed on B5s, C5s, and TTs (which are much smaller than the RS6). The size of the unit is due to the plug and play connectors built directly into the unit to facilitate ease of installation.

I am not not sure what the rules of this forum are regarding this type of discussion, but hopefully I was able to answer some of your questions.

If a member of this community (blmlozz?) is interested in trying one of your units, please contact us from our website.

I am ready to purchase this. Thanks for talking about the difference between the two units. Sounds like the other one is a none starter if it doesn't work with an RS6. I don't know if zzottel's new one that is about to be released addresses this but I am ready now.

Tell me something about the options:

Micro shift LED

Boost controller

GETSTE answered my questions through email because he is not sure where the line is drawn for advertising and just information sharing. It would be nice to address that concern because I believe this is of great interest for all of us.

Just an integrated Boost gauge alone is nice, along with the Vacuum gauge of course. Del Stator, please pass along what you learned about the unit. Have you ordered yet? If you have positive feedback I would think there will be many here that will give them business.

Here is what he said about the mounting location and some links to answer general stuff.

GETSTE:

"Regarding the installation location, the lower bolster is the area under your steering where your left knee generally is.

Detailed pictures of the installation location and process is included the instruction manual and in a blog post created by a customer that has installed the unit. Both of these links have been provided below. Please take a few mins to review them. I think looking at the pictures will be the best way to describe the installation process to you."

Please review the following links:

1. Customer's PPD Install blog (http://ppdinstall.blogspot.com/)
2. PPD (GreyConn) Installation Manual (http://www.getste.com/ste_downloads/PPD_InstallationManual_GreyConn.pdf)
3. PPD Demonstration Video (http://www.getste.com/?showdemo=1)

I have not ordered yet. I am going to check a couple of other things out. I don't believe they will do what this unit does. Or at least not as well integrated.

I am not sure what this unit does.....DashDaq http://www.drewtech.com/enthusiast/index.html I don't know how it compares.

I have been very interested in using the DashDaq in other vehicles but I haven't done the research.

I am moving to another state and I am packing right now so I haven't had time to sit down and compare. Maybe in the next week I will.

If someone has look at the differences....pros and cons of each, then please fill us in. I am always interested in other options as well.

Here is GTESTE's other response..

Hello Christopher,

I read your questions on RS6.com. I am not familiar with the rules on that forum regarding advertising and I rather not have the thread deleted or banned from the forum so please allow me to answer your questions via email.

The boost controller is a plug and play add-on module. It plugs into the PPD unit and then into your N75 valve. You pre-program the desired waste gate duty cycle into 3 separate maps. You can switch between the MAPS instantly via menu control stalk.

The shift LED plugs into the base unit and illuminates at the RPM you specify using the PPD Connect utility.

PPD Connect is the configuration utility that is used to configure the device settings such as shift rpm, boost maps, etc. It is also used to update the device's firmware and retrieve data logs.

Please view the following link for a demonstration of PPD Connect. Additionally, please watch the PPD demo video previously linked for a demonstration of the boost map switching capability of the boost controller add-on and the shift LED. These videos are the best method for gaining exposure to the unit's capabilities.

Chris - Please be aware that the product is currently back ordered due to demand. If you are interested in purchasing please place your order as soon as possible using the website, so that we can get your order in the queue.
