Hankook i Cept 245/25-18 100V

Back from work today in snowy winter conditions. Didn't want to run the 10 year old Pirelli summer tires up the hill. Looked at Blizzak LM-60's @ $250 vs. Michelin Pilot Sport PA3's @ $276 vs. Hankook i Cept @ $205. Size 245/45-18. All available from Discount Tire and went there as they have been good to me even though I rarely buy new tires.

Went for the Hankook as they had good reviews and the same load (100) and speed (V) rating as the others. Very happy so far. THe beast accelerates faster than it stops. Yikes!!

The argument for Quattro.....now if I could just fit a plow to the front, the driveway would be done in 4.5 seconds! Hankooks didn't miss a beat. It was between them and the Blizzak LM-60's. These were $45 cheaper each and had the same speed and load rating as the Blizzaks so I thought I would try something different.

my RS6 has yet to see snow, but oh lord, memories of being in high school with an ur-quattro. back in the day when 152bhp out of a turbo inline-5 was big power. nothing shut down that car, except once, when the snow got so deep that the car was too low to clear through the snow. dug the snow out from under the car and off I went again. the magic with the ur-quattro that's missing with the modern quattro: manually lockable diffs. snow-packed roads + center and rear diffs locked = rally drift hero :)

Can't wait to get the RS in the snow.....A6 4.2 today was crap compared to the RS.....can't even talk on the phone and go WOT without getting scared in the A6....I love ESP.

Hey everyone,

This is my first post so help me if i am doing anything wrong....

I moved from California to Michigan and bought my first set of All Season tires they are Kumho's

My Ride comfort has gone down the drain and the Michigan Roads are a real pain in the ass... my previous tires were Ulta High Performance Bridgestone Summer tires and they were a little better. But the Roads here are mostly Concrete blocks and have gaps between the blocks and there is quite a hight difference from one to another... and after snow storms there are large ditches in the road.....so my question is:
> 245/45/18 tires are 10mm shorter in width but 8mm higher in side wall height... will these lessen the impact of bad roads and if the increase in height has any negative affect on the suspension and transmission.

Mr. 905084 you have this set up for your winter tires only or on Summer tires as well

Any Sugestions and Help is Greatly Appreciated

I have the 245/45/18's for winter and 255/40/18's for summer. I've also had 255/35/19's on my A6. The higher sidewall definitely smooths the ride out. I'll never put 19's on a car here in Utah again as the roads here aren't much better than Michigan

Handling isn't as good in the 245/45/18's, some of which is the tire and some the sidewall height. Unless you are pushing the car to the limits I'd go for the 45 series just for the ride.
